Hey, need some advice, got as S2, 2001 with Drilled Disks (think came with touring package) which are coming to the end of there life after 30K.

What should i got for, infro needed in regards to front and rear disks and pads????? i am not prepaired to spend crazy prices, but please let me know from experience which are the best value and HOW MUCH I SHOULD PAY AND WHO TO GET IT FROM. I guess you should never get disks from a braker yard?

thanks

Tom

Check out Eliseparts and Eliseshop website.
I've got EBC spotted and grooved with Mintex 1144 pads. Fine for fast road use and occasional track days.
I wouldn't go near a breakers yard for brake parts. Buy the best you can afford - brakes and tyres keep you safe.

yes

No need to spend silly money. EBC make good discs. Get new pads as well to be safe. Mintex 1144 are an excellent budget option. DON'T go anywhere near a Lotus dealer, they will ask you to assume the position and you'll hear zips being undone.....

I wouldn't! But can understand why it was suggested. I suppose most of the feel comes from the front brakes, and IMO the Greenstuffs aren't up to much in this area more, so why spend more than necessary. Others, that would know better than myself, have said they wouldn't touch Greenstuffs.
Given the lack aids in the braking sytem and the fact that the Elise is a light mid engined car I'd use the same pads all round in the best effort to keep the distribution of braking forces as intended (on the road anyway).

EBC grooved and dimpled disks with Mintex 1144 pads clap

I got my disks from Ebay and the pads came from www.motorsportworld.co.uk

Best budget set up I've found, don't waste your money on EBC Greenstuff pads, they're pretty useless.

Elises are overbraked at the rear so using a less aggressive pads (albeit only slightly) at the back will change the bias - I do the same on the Caterham to give more front bias but with Pagids rather than Mintex/Greenstuff, in fact I know quite a few Elise owners who use RS14s on the front and RS42s on the back.

Anyone who uses brake consumables from a breakers should be shot - that applies to any car, not just a Lotus.

JRT Automotive on Ebay have supplied all my brakes to date. I have EBC disks and currently use standard Mintex pads, but will go over to 1144 as part of the winter refresh.

Disks are circa £120 a pair and pads are about £55 an axle set... So, should be about the £350 mark...

Yep... But lukily no one wanted to pay my over inflated pries and I have it tucked away for winter now... biggrin

Not selling any longer, it's no longer everyday transport, more of a toy and will be tracked a little more..

My car came with the cross drilled discs. Thought about replacing them with the grooved and dimpled jobbies off eliseparts, but in the end I put the lotus sport cross drilled back on. Not cheap mind, over £500 fitted with 1144's all round if my memory serves me correct. Given the choice again think i would go with the ebc's.
