Is it just me or does anybody else think that the picture on p.5 of this week's MCN showing Honda's Air bag looks like a bird with her arse in yer face ??

I can see it being VERY popular-might even lead to 1 or 2 low speed incidents just to trigger it.wink

They've been talking about this for ages...
How much weight will it add to the bikes?

We will soon have to ban people from living as 100% of people who are alive will die, showing just how dangerous being alive can be!

IIRC, it's already saved one Brit in the USA who was traveling on his GL1800 when he t-boned a car (he wasn't even wearing a helmet). He walked away with nothing more than bruises and a few cuts....Was in MCN last year.....

...and of course it's been 'proven' that he wouldn't have survived without the airbag... rolleyes

I really don't see the problem with air bags or anything else that will limit injury during an accident. It's like saying that fantastic brakes are a result of the 'nanny state'. Why wear a crash helmet? Isn't that a bit wussy? We take air bags for granted now, even in sports cars. Porsche GT3RS has air bags but no one has commented on how 'rediculous' they are because they add a couple of Kgs.

I'd love to see airbags available on all bikes. Technology in this area can only improve once it is commonly available and is allowed to evolve. That's how side and roof/curtain airbags evolved in cars which are a big injury/life saver.

I don’t have a problem with air bags on motorcycles and the small amount of extra weight they will add can generally be balanced by the ‘fat bastid’ rider laying off the pies for a couple of days!

What I worry about is that when something like this becomes available, it is currently only one small step until compulsion ‘for my own good’! If you want air bags on you motorcycle and sports car then that’s totally up to you but I don’t want anyone telling me I HAVE to have them.

There was a comment about some 250 GP riders trialing airbags in their race suits in the More Crap than News of this week. I don't know how it would work, but it seems more sense to me, since you can be flung/jump clear.
