New battery charger question !

Having got a flat battery I have now been out and bought a new charger.
Just read on the box that it is for Acid batteries only not to be used for NICAD batteries ?


My battery is a Bosch Silver 7FN 12v 74AH 680 A (EN)(sealed)

Any thoughts please ? Am I about to blow myself up ?

My big problem seems to be that being a company car , never service my own, change about every three years my
car mechanic common sense has gone away !

Any help greatfully appreciated !

Normal car batteries (like the bosch silver series) are known as acid (or lead/acid) batteries. They consist of some lead plates in an acid liquid. Nicads are Nickel-Cadmium batteries: These are the rechargeable batteries for radios, older laptops, RC cars and the like. Luckily you're not likely to blow up if you use this charger on your car.

Well, if you really insist on blowing yourself up, you could always put the clamps on the battery the wrong way round?

If you do, make sure you spill petrol over the battery first, for added lift.

Don't try this at home kiddies, blasting yourself high into the sky can be dangerous - exploded bodies go down as well as up

Dont forget to turn the battery charger off before you disconnect it as the garage roof could still lift !

Martyn's right the gas that comes of when charging is highly explosive.

I found out the hard way, the hydrogen exploded on a battery I was charging, thankfully I was wearing glasses and the acid which was thrown out by the explosion did not get to my eyes in any great qty. I am now a little now careful when charging batteries, especially when in confined places !
