Ok, i've spend the last 2 hours in the rain stripping my wiper mechanism down thinking the motor was defunk'd. Basically after testing again without the mechanism attached the motor spins as it should. It appears that the "bar" that the 2 wiper arms connects to is jammed somehow so probably needs replacing. This is the offending item:

Does anyone know what this is actually called? or what car it comes from? Would appreciate any help from anyone that knows. I'm hoping that this is cheaper than a new motor! Thanks

ok i've taken this thing apart and it could actually just be the coiled wire that connects to the motor that could be faulty, it just jamm's mid-point so I may as well replace both at the same time just incase. Does anyone know what the coily thing is called as well? and if you can buy on it's own?

Steve, What you have there is the wiper pinions and rack tubes (assembled) From the motor end the rack tube, with flared end and brass nut (tube with the with a grommet on)the tub gets locked onto the pinion with minor nuts and back plate with the flaired end dropping into a slot, the pinion MO132 (TVR's part number, you should chase through the dealer network as I tried the OE supplier 3 days ago for stock and they had non) the middle tube and 2nd pinion and the extension tube. Running inside these is the rack 8.00UKP. If you strip the pinions off the tubes then check the gears inside to see if they have stripped (assuming that the pinion gears have stripped or seized) and check the rack (coiled wire)to see if this has failed.

Edited to say, The pinions might get called wheelboxes

What you will find is that the plastic teeth on the strip that runs through the tube and the cogs themselves have worn causing the wheels in the wheel boxes to slip and miss on each rotation of the arms.Thats why the arms are not moving.

When i wanted mine which was around a year ago,no one had them in stock. And i mean know one. Some of the people i tried didnt even think i would get the part.Thats why i done some digging and found they were from a series 111 Jag.Phoned the local breakers who had one,and i went along and collected. It was better to have a second hand one than to have nothing at all.Even if i paid a bit more for it.I have a feeling he will be chasing around the same.

Bluethunder...I am not saying you did not, but I am seeing 3 different XJ versions listed ...the original TVR part for TVR list price of 29.45 NEW why would anyone be using secondhand parts that cost more money.....I did say, that the OP would chase around looking for them, (I made 3 calls, bought 2 and then ordered 50 to compliment the fact that I supply the TVR market place with motors) I will stock these as soon as they are made.

I hold over 200.000 ukp TVR parts for models from 1961-2001. I can and will source/stock any part that is TVR....This is however a business and as I had made 2 sets of calls for these in the last week then, AND the S/H parts are more than the new price that people are happy to pay! I suppose, I get shocked into action. The sample for the Wheel box will hit me Tuesday. (I am not sure that the supply will hit before Christmas) If you say you cannot get an item then I like to think I can help.
Adrian@
The only way I find out that there is demand for a part is when I get asked for a part! Send a list and I will work my way through it, as my new parts budget allows.
