Just had a quote for a 2000 4.5 LW, SE1 postcode, garaged 4yrs no claims, no accidents, no convictions etc....£2300! That was with Tesco. Cheam and Adrian flux came in higher.

I think it must be the postcode as I used to pay £1000 for my chim 500 in Putney.

Looks like I'm not getting a cebera then, at least until I move again! Not paying that kind of money on principle!

Gutted,

Rob

Try Mannings and Sunninghill. Theres also a place called Classic Cars I think.

The postcode isnt helping but it shouldnt be madness.

Though saying that my mate who lives in Tower Hamlets tried to insure a Cerb at 23 and they quoted him £13K!

I've just spent all morning ringing round for a renewal on my Chimaera, Mannings were the cheapest by £200 although you have to be a TVRCC member.

I'm down in Tooting (SW17) and a Chim 4.5 came in at £1450 with Peart (0870 240 2972). Elephant were pretty close, with a lower excess. That's with 3 years no claims, I'm 28.

A Manning are on 10491 578 759. They were quoting 2K plus for me, so it looks like Peart are going to get the business.

Thanks, Peart won't quote if the vehicle is not kept at home address. No good for me as my lock up is probably going to be a tube stop away.

Is this divine intervention perhaps?

There's been a lot of insurance discussion on www.pistonheads.net/gassing/topic.asp?t=46766&f=13&h=0 . Essentially, if it's your main car you really pay out. If it's not and you can limit your mileage it makes life a bit cheaper. We used to insure our Cerbera in SW2 before we moved out of London and I don't think it was anything like the costs mentioned here but then, things change!

rjben, how old are you?

I pay £866 with Sunnignhill for my 2000, 4.5 LW and live in SW2 - with the car not garaged (it is off-street, behind electronic gates mind you). I am 34 with 7 yrs no claims and 3 points.

They were paticularly interested in the fact that this is my third TVR across the last 7 years however, but the difference between our quotes is immense.

I also limited myself to 8000 miles (or is it 6000?!?)

I'm 30 believe it or not. Mannings did like the fact that I'd had a tuned impreza and chimp 500 though.

I can live with the insurance at that price but it has eaten in to my budget a little more than planned, so I hope that Fernies and myself can come to a reasonable agreement on price.

This time next week I could be the proud owner of....no, don't temp fate.

Another thing, the car I'm looking at is grey with anthracite wheels. Does anybody have an opinion on silver wheels instead (both sets are 18" spiders).

Cheers,

Rob

Rob, I saw the car you have in mind at Fernies last week and personally felt it would look more striking with silver spiders.

If it was me, and I was unsure, I would ask Fernies to put silver spiders on one side and leave the anthracite wheels on the other and get them to drive the car out of the showroom so that you can have a good look in the daylight at both before choosing. They often put spiders on their Cerberas before selling them on so will likely have silver ones kicking around.

If you prefer silver I doubt they would lose the sale if you insisted on a swap.

Rjben, if you buy the car with the anthracite wheels and decide to swap them for silver, we'll buy the anthracite ones from you!!

OK then - back on topic.

When I transferred the Griff's insurance to the Cerbera, I was told that the Cerb would probably be no more than £200 more expensive to insure than the Griff at next renewal. This was in late May.

Got the renewal details a couple of days ago - and the amount has doubled. First time I've seen four figures on an insurance quote since I was a new driver!

Ignoring the "lying toads" part of this , I then phoned around loads of insurers yesterday. Not only did none of them even come close to the quote we were given by our insurers, but some of them were up to £700 cheaper!! So it just goes to show - if you shop around you can save some cash.

Still deciding which company is going to get our business for this year, but it isn't the company all three of our cars are currently insured with, I can tell you! Talk about biting the hand that feeds you...

After I sold the Griffith I asked about insurance fee on a Cerbera 4.2. I was paying about £700 a year for the Griff and Direct Line told me that I would have to pay no extra for a Cerbera!!

That was in March. I live in STEVENAGE and have nopoints or accidents, 37.5 years and car would be garaged.

After S Girl's comments I may need to check again.

Cerbera draws ever closer!!!!
