I have just purchased an imported 97 impreza wrx everything about the car is standard apart from the biggest stainless steel exhaust system I have ever seen, 'Its not really me' and wondered what options there were for keeping the lovely noise but loosing the huge back box? I dont really want to go back to the standard exhaust system if possible.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Hayward

Not got one myself but they do seem to have a good press.

Once you have bought a new system don't forget to sell the old one as that is worth some money to you if it is a full stainless steel system. You forgot to say if
your system was a full decat or single cat (in the downpipe) system or it may well be that you only change the backbox for something more modest biggrin

Lots of people sell exhausts for one reason or another and if its stainless theres no reason not to buy 2nd hand at a low price. Have a look here http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-sale-car-parts-ac...

Some nutter may even swap their standard looking but fruity one for your boyracer one.

Its a Blitz NUR Spec cat back system by the look of it, I guess they are quite good???
and can maybe just buy a different blitz back box?

Ironically, a Blitz NurSpec would fail a noise test at the Ring biggrin

If a Hayward and Scott proves hard to find (unlikely) the Prodrive backbox is a good alternative. Not as 'woofly' but a harder edged sound without too much volume.

I had the same thing when I bought my car. It had a huuuuge Afterburner Vortex exhaust that sounded great but was way too loud. I got the Hayward and Scott exhaust and it's great. Sold the Vortex for £150

The H&S has a nice noise when I floor it but it doesn't get on my nerves on the motorway. I've also got a straight through mid section which is well worth doing as your car won't have a centre CAT anyway.

Not loud enough eekbiggrin

I presume you have the rest of the SS exhaust/uppipe in place. All decat or just a single kitty in the downpipe? scratchchin

I really like the sound of the TSL box, it isn't raspy like a lot of others and to be honest the low frequency thrumb has people looking everytime i go by, but not in a distasteful way, more of a pleasing 'oooh that sounds nice' kind of way, but it's not loud and won't get me turned away from trackdays due to limiting low noise thresholds like at Bedford Autodrome. Since having recently had a Zen Performance decat uppipe fitted it has taken on a slightly smoother/deeper tune biggrin

However..... I wouldn't want to be your neighbour by the time you're done. Maybe you should get the NurSpec backbox and p1ss everyone off biglaugh
