Are there any mods that can be done to the airbox to make it sound a bit better ??????

I don't want to change the exhaust or replace the airbox for an aftermarket item, as I'm not convinced they give any additional perfomance for the cash outlay.

There is a mod that can be done to the 993, is there a similar mod for the 996 ???????

Cheers.

If yours is pre-01 facelift, still think it is worth
investing in a sports exhaust system.Had one on a previous Porker & it sounded fantastic at high revs, transformed the car. BUT was rather too loud & tractor like around town, Porsche themselves do a great system that has a built in switch that allows you silence it around town & then switch it on again to frighten the wildlife, treat yourself !!

I have recently fitted a Fabspeed Sports Exhauast to my 993 C4. (They also do a 996 and have an Mpeg file of it`s sound on their site). My car sounds so much better now. However, last week I also fitted a Fabspeed Air box with K & N filter and the combination of this with the exhaust is absolutely stunning at 4K revs upward. Highly recommended.Total price circa £1K.

Peter, I think the Porker system is around £1500-ish, I really like the mute switch idea & it is OPC approved, but as usual it ain't cheap.
I have heard good reports on the Fabspeed, but what does it sound like around town or under load in a higher gear, as I mentioned the Cargraphic system I had was fantastic when you were in the mood , but a pain when in town or when not thrashing it !!

I think he would sacrifice the nice engine note if that was the only option

Imagine a nice exhaust note in a characterful Porker - that's having your cake and eating it

...the 993 mod you're thinking about is RSR's, I believe. Nothing similar for the 996.

I have a Porsche Sports Exhaust on my '99 996 C4 and think it's fantastic! Expensive, but worth the money as it's OEM and doesn't cause any unpleasant resonance inside the car at any speed.

Also, I've heard negative things about the longevity of Fabspeed/Cargraphic exhausts for the 996, so didn't want to risk it.

Wheres does the Mute button go, on a spare Rocker in the centre console ?

I had one on my GTO, but it did naff all to the nosie..

does it actually work?

I would love to hear one with a Sports system on.

I dont plan to keep my 996 too long, maybe 6-9 mths,, so I dont want to spend a Fortune on her, but by the same token, I do miss the note of my Modded TVR...

Anyone can describe the sound in a Derestricter mannor ?

like a wine taster for Exhausts..

Or anyone around Essex Area with a sports who wouldnt mind a Free pint

Lovely how.

what does it sound like

ATM, the sound i would say is a Muted Whine, building from nothing to a high pitched top end.. with no real bass or feeling.

How do the modded ones sound, and do they do airbox at same time..

Does it affect warranty etc, and what was your insurance hike..

any side effects ? grounding, intrusive cabin noise, resonance etc

Petepeter, I had my company mechanic fit both for me. They were VERY simple to do (straight swap).
I love the sound(and I am in my late 40's). I always loved the tone of a TVR engine and this flat six now actually comes close!
