hi guys

I've a 2003 530i sports touring just got it in October relly happy with it apart from mpg still getting used to ayto box aswell. Today was the first time I have used the tow bar its detachable factory fit but couldn't plug in the trailer electrics is it a different plug or am I just being stupid. Its pouring down here so didnt examine to closely the trailer plug fitted a m8s Saab 95 which is a 2004 I think.

Thanks for your advice in advace

Usually BMW's with factory bars will have the European 12 pin plug, rather than the UK 7 pin version. hence you will need to get an "adaptor" which are availible at most trailer / caravan shops (or on ebay!) and convert using a male 12 pin plug to 2 of female UK 7 pins. (in UK trailer lighting is on a seperate plug to trailer or caravan power (for fridges etc)

As usual euro plug is a lot better generally, as it has a positive twist lock action and an O ring seal, so it is a lot more robust than the normal 7 pin one

Thanks for that, just checked mine and its the 12 pin plug - and thats on a new x5. Bought an adaptor in halfrauds as i need to tow tomorrow for the first, but they're probably cheaper online.

13 pins rather than 12 me thinks. Adapters are about a tenner on ebay
