driving through London today and water temp jumped from from 100 to 114 to 120 to 134!!! Oil temp basically static at late 90s. Wasnt sure whether it was a faulty temp relay to pod cos fans came on but not until temp got to 116! I think it must be a faulty temp sender. Pls put my mind at rest!frown

no steam at all - car felt fine. Righly or wrongly, I looked at the oil temp and as it wasn't moving up decided it was likely to be a faulty reading. I'm going to have a look at the temp sender today - any idea what it looks like - I'm told the one for the pod is near the first cylinder (front of engine). The helpful chap at Clever Trevor said I should see if it could be cleaned up before looking to buy a new one.
