Anyone know where I can get a good freeware or shareware DVD ripper.

I'd like to convert vob to mpeg1.

Looks like you have to pay for DVD shrink now unless someone knows where an earlier version is archived.

Checked the freeware sticky on this section and there aren't any others mentioned.

If the purpose is for copying/pirating DVDs, then that's illegal and not something supported by PH.

It is legal to make one back-up copy of any disc you own for your own use.
(At least it is here in the U.S., where all of the DCMA crap comes from anyway).

Links to DVD Shrink, DVD Decryptor and Ripit4Me and others can be found on the Videohelp.com tool page here:

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/decrypters...

I have also found this copy protection detector comes in handy so you can check to see if a disc has protection and if so, hopefully what it is:

As Kinky says, this info is to be used only for the purposes of good, not evil.smile It is illegal to copy a disc you don't own, make more than one copy or give a copy to someone else.

Thanks.

Not doing anything naughty - I'm converting vob (mpeg2) files to mpeg1 so I can play them on a WinCE handheld.

Vobs are recorded on my pvr from the telly.

Please don't tell Gordon Brown just incase I am actually breaking some law or causing the climate to die or something. Getting to the point where we are all criminals these days.
