Using a spare monitor to watch Freeview

I have a spare 21" widescreen monitor and was wondering how easy/cheap it would be to use it for freeview ? It has both digital and analogue ports.

There seem to be boxes you can buy to do this, but it is worth it, can anyone recommend one where you don't need a computer alongside. Or should I not bother and just buy an lcd tv and freeview box ...
