Do have it checked out.

Sooner or later, as our cars get older, they'll be a lot more cerbs for less than 10K.

Weren't pre 98 4.2's prone to crank failure?

I'd say the owner knows it needs some big work if its going for under £10k.

agreed, i bought mine under 10k, and have had to pump nearly 10k into it so far.. far wiser to pay closer to 15-18 for one thats TRULY been maintained 100%, at which price youd be really getting a deal if it was properly looked after

WOW i see!! so really not worth the risk then i take it?

shame really because I need to get a second car and around the 10k mark is my budget - do you think i'm dreaming a bit to think I will get a reliable cerb for under 10k then?

See if you can take it to a good indie to get it checked out first, then take it from there!

Alternatively, you could get a very nice sorted, worry free Chimaera biggrin

Price is no guarantee of condition , you could buy at a higher price and still end up spending a lot on it . You would be better off paying a mechanic from a local TVR garage to have a look at it with you .
If the crank was abought to snap I doubt the owner would know anything about it ! There are a lot of cerberas under 10K these days .

i concur - after 3 cerbs the most expensive one i bought 45K cost me the most in repairs. the latest (the cheapeast) has had a few niggles, but no huge cost

i've got a 96 4.2. my profile might give you an idea of what may or may not have been done on older cerbs. My car has had over £30k in repairs and servicing. and it has been described as 'a good one' by an indy.

i know it's good i use it daily, it's lived a life, but haven't we all?

I looked at a few 10k Cerbera's as that was my budget, mostly tired interiors and early cars possibly with the inferior crank. I was worried about a 6K+ bill if the crank snaps on the early 4.2s. I eventually ended up buying one for 15k, its the only way I could get one that had already had most of the big jobs done.
