Just got my D40........first time on an SLR and just had a quick play at St Pancras. I am booked in on a course to learn the real ins and outs of SLR photography but was really happy how these came out.

Brilliant photographs, black and white does it for me.

Last time I was in a train station, it was in hull.. I was taking photos and was warned by a police officer that I didn't stop taking photographs I could have my camera confiscated!

Great pics! What course are you booked on and where are you doing it? I was thinking of doing one myself.

Excellent photos!

Are you sure these are your first attempts?
What lens were you using?

Yup, only picked up teh camera on Saturday.......have taken pictures before with a point and shoot Sony thing but just spent ages trying to understand the SLR and I think they have come out nicely.

The lens is just the Canon 17-85mm which came with it. Any suggestions of other lenses I should get?

I was going to suggest a wide, like a Sigma 10-20, for Architectural stuff.

However, your photographs are so much better than my attempts, I've got no advice to offer!

Only did this as it is pretty local and a friend did the 2 day course and said it was amazing how much she learnt in that short time.

Great pics, I can imagine that station would have a lot of areas to photograph!

But how did you get away with taking pics in there? Surely you are now on MI5's terrorist hotlist?!? hehe

hehe Get some Nikon fit ones if you have a D40 wink

I'd get something with some "reach" - say a Sigma 70-300mm, then something wider, say a Sigma 10-20mm.

I'd also recommend a flashgun as well - I have had good experiences with my Sigma one (it's the Super, rather than the standard one! - I don't have it near me, but IIRC its the SG-500)

That should get you started, in the fullness of time you will probably want a 50mm f1.8 prime, and maybe an upgrade of the 17-85 lens to one that's a bit faster.

Then you'll be justifying the upgrade to the body, then you'll start wanting bigger & more expensive lenses, then you change the body again...etc wink
