Hi, just doing a whole bunch of jobs, the intermittent wipers haven't worked since I bought the car, had the same problem with one of my Chims and re-seating the tall relay sorted it not so in this case, where should I start looking? also what's involved with fitting a variable control like the Chim has?

Do you mean varying speed control?
Thought all griffs had the pot control on left side of the column.

Maybe a wire is off the pot, this would stop the variable wipers working.

I was a bit confused by that too Ant, sounds like it may be missing - in which case intermittent wont work. AFIK if all the other functions work (park, single wipe, wash) the problem can only be in the link from the fusebox to the pot on the binnacle. I seem to recall there is always some resistance - so shorting it out may not work. Does depend if you have it I guess?

Well sitting here with the steering cowl in my hand, no pot or hole for one, my chim had one just infront of the colum hight adjuster. What type of pot do I need and how would the I wire it up?

Looking through the bible, I havnt got the aux fan fan fitted in the drivers wing either or a dash light off switch, there is a hole but looking at the trim, theres no evidance one was ever fitted, I do however have pump up lumber suports and carpetless door panels.

Any idea on the spec or a part number for the control pot?

Not sure, but isn't it just a standard bit off Vauxhalls of the era? I've got a spare one but can't remember there being much id on it?

Looks like you were right Dave, went through the loom again tonight and found a white two pin conector tucked behind the main loom, when shorted out the intermittent wipers work, so it looks like its had a new cowl at some time and they didnt refit the the potentiometer. In which case it seem its not a standard vauxhall part and was fitted by the factory. I could just connect the wires but would be nice to put it back to original, just need to figure out what spec pot I need. On the upside I am ticking off a lot of problems from my list biggrin

More than likely the plastic screw fixing on the cowl was broken... Thats why I got a spare one (as well as precaution when I drilled mine for a fan o/ride switch).
