Hi All.

Been considering a nearly new 1er (6 months old roughly) and have looked a few but to be honest I'm not totally sure in some cases whether I'm looking at a 2008 model or the old one as they're very similar from the exterior (I am reasonably well genned up on the new engines, improved ride, efficient dynamics etc).

Is there an easy way to tell the difference visually or a certain date after which they are all the new type ?

Thanks in advance, Mike.

(PS - my first thread so be gentle please or I shall cry !)

The easiest thing to spot is the Auto stop/start button below the climate control panel, they are from march 07 onwards unless it's a 116 and then it's from sept 07 with the new engine.

drop me a mail if you want and I can see what you could get for your money, if that would help?

Thanks Duncan and Gareth - appreciate the replies !

I am after a 5 door and if you're looking at pictures on, say, autotrader it can be tricky to tell if it's the new one. The date is probably the safest thing to go by by the sounds of it.

(Duncan - will email you although it's only fair to say I'm not likely to be doing anything for a wee while yet so I wouldn't want you to spend any great amount of time on it.)

Thanks Gareth - I've had a look on DtheD and agree it's very impressive but I will need to trade in my current beast so dont think I can use them ?
