Hi everyone, please can you help me??

I bought a domain from 123-reg earlier this year which had a package including hosting, email etc. I have set up my mail forwarding rule with 123 as per all their instructions (which may i say are crap!).

I set the email forwarding so the POP box would send my emails to my Mac at home. I went into Mail on my mac and set up the account as is decribed by 123 but the problem i have is that it will only pick up the email but won't send!

I am on Orange broadbrand which we bought originally from Wanadoo but they were bought out by Orange. The broadband runs on my stepdads PC directly and i run directly from the server through a network cable in my room.

I am very confused as to why i can receive emails but i can't send them. Is it the outgoing server blocking them? Please please can someone help, I am a bit of a novice when it comes to email and the workings of the internet?

I hope i have explained things clearly enough.

Thanks guys

Chris

I am on Orange broadbrand
= Problem, think you'll find they have various blocks in place through certain ports

What do you have set as your outgoing mail server?

It *should* be something like mail.orange.net or smtp.orange.net

ETA: checked the Orange site, it should be smtp.orangehome.co.uk

similar problem with orange ended up changing the port that was set at 25 to 578 or 587 or something similar

It's high time all this POP/SMTP manual setting up malarkey was made 'plug and play' IMHO.

Yep, should be 587.

ETA:

To elaborate, that is in SMTP Server Settings. Certainly with Gmail accounts added to Mail.app you'll be wanting to use SSL and be putting in your account username and password
