My 5 is in excellent condition. She has low miles, costs peanuts to insure and looks pretty cool.

Ive noticed however, that the offside rear arch is starting to bubble, which displeases me greatly.

I cant decide if its worth me sorting this now or shall I wait a year till its come through.

With regards replacements, I see from MX5 parts you can buy a complete new arch and sill part which will need to be sprayed before being fitted. The sills on my car are ok, and not rusty. Its just the rear arch.

Would it be worth just getting a new arch put in? or am I looking at a whole new sill and arch piece?

Whats the damage going to be?

Try to save your wing.
Replacements tend to rust quicker than orginals as they are made from inferior material and not as well rust-protected.
To replace a rear wing the old one has to be cut off and a new one welded in - they are not bolt-on.
Therefore the painting has to be done with the wing in place.

I would guess it depends on the depth of the rust. If it can simply be ground back down to good metal and sprayed properly that'll be worth doing before it gets worse. Or grind out the rusty area if it's all the way through and use a little filler to restore the shape. It's not structural as far as I'm aware. I'd go a long way down working with what I've got before deciding to cut the whole rear wing off and replace it.

Sage advice.

Im going to take it to somewhere to take a look at it.

The arch itself is very solid - and the rust I think is just on the surface.

At the bottom of the arch where it meets the sill, there was a bit of rust which I scrubbed off and KUrusted off then painted. Again, its very solid.

So I may ask them to do as you say and grind back and paint, and grind back and fill as neccessery.

Not sure how much I should be looking to pay though.

Couple o'undred?
