Granada Cosworth Front Brake Calipers

I'm about to launch into fitting the above. From reading other posts I understand the caliper is fitted with two 12mm dia bolts rather than the 10mm used as standard and that I need 2mm thick washers as spacers. To save me taking a wheel off does anyone know what length the 12mm dia bolts need to be?

Yes, stock Granada Cosworth ones(and yes long, enough even with 2mm washers),which are still available from Ford dealers.

This conversion seems to be getting more and more popular, are you going for 283's as well?

please can you tell me about the conversion ,part numbers etc .are the rear up graded or left alone and any problems catching standard wheels thanks daren

If someone is interested I have one of these kits left.The come with completely overhauled Granada Cosworth calipers and NEW disc ( 278 x24)and NEW pads. Completely with spacers and bolts.

I have recently done this conversion, absolute doddle - any questions fire away.

Part numbers? I bought mine complete from Ebay and rebuilt them, carriers, all fixings, seals and paint - £40!

EBC zinc coated grooved and dimpled discs, Red Stuff pads - £200.

What about the rear Daz?
It depends on what you car is, whether it already has 273mm rear discs.
If not ,then you are looking for rear bearing carriers, calipers and 273 vented discs.

My feeling is the rear is already overbraked comapred to the front - that the main resaon I am upgrading the front discs / calipers. My conversion has not gone smoothly so far as my motor factor kindly supplied me with 5 stud Granada discs not four stud so I wasn't able to do it yesterday - have just hopefully picked up the correct discs and will fit today / tommorrow. It only looks like an hours job to do both sides although this may be famous last words.....

The discs you are after are Sierra Cosworth/RS500 3door 2 wheel drive(the original whale tail model)283mm in diameter fronts,if that helps.

I put bog standard replacement 283mm cossie discs on. £50 the pair from my local motorfactors. I'm not sure that drilled/grooved/dimpled discs offer any benefit, other than looks, in the real world. IMHO of course

If you ever have a sphincter moment because you have used your brakes a bit too much, you may change your opinion. Its something many people would just rather try & avoid in the first place.

Ah! I take it then that the reason for the holes/grooves/dimples is that they help with cooling?
If that the case then I stand corrected. I thought it was to do with saving weight, hence my no benefit in the real world comment.

Not really, simplistically the grooves / holes help clear the hot gas/crap away that can form between the pad & disk and act as a lubricant instead of abrasive

Gents, have you considered Focus ST170 front brakes (300mm) with either Focus ST170, Mondeo Mk3 or Jaguar X-Type calipers...?

Alternatively, there is the Mk2 Mondeo V6 disc and caliper option which are 278mm...

If you don't use your brakes too hard, there is an argument that they wear pads out faster, and create more unsightly brake dust...

Pays your money & takes your choice, looks are the least significant points in my book (bloody show queens - you'll get us a p00fy reputation like the Gayrifterrrrs )

I've fitted granada cosworth calipers to the front and sierra 4 x 4 cosworth to the rear. Haven't fitted the discs yet because she's on stands at the moment but i've sourced 283mm front and 273mm rear drilled and grooved by Tarox from Euro Performance (expensive but they look the nuts!).

Apparently they're from a mondeo ST24, but all fords seem to be the same size. They're a good outfit, just give them a call with the size you need and they'll do the leg work and tell you which ones you can choose from.

I'll post pics when it's finished.
