RADAR DETECTORS

Are they legal? What about the Valentine V1.
Can anyone offer advice. Where can I get one fitted? I live near Southport, Lancs.

The best Radar detectors are first and foremost your eyes, closely followed by your right foot.

In a serious answer . Yes they are legal. The V1 is supposed to be the daddy of detectors. Don't know where you'd get one fitted - sorry.

However, you might want to look at the thread on the Origin B2 which is a GPS speed camera locator which has all the bits to connect both a radar/laser detector and laser defuser to it.

Check out the Origin site for more details or there are a few other sites like www.speedtraps.co.uk that have reviews and product comparisons.

NB: The V1 is apparantly alot cheaper if bought direct from the US. The settings are slightly different but otherwise it's the same product and you can adjust the settings yourself.

Laser jammers - illegal:

But is it an offence to have one in situ on the car? How can it be shown/proved that a police laser equipped machine was 'jammed' by your particular laser jamming device, especially if it is 'off' when they inspect it?

ps I have never owned one of these things. I see them like electric salt and pepper shakers - just no need!

They are not illegal - yet. I am not aware of any test cases either. They are certainly on dodgy ground if you get caught though.

Could using a jammer be seen as perverting the course of justice or maybe even obstructing a policeman in the course of his duty?

Quite possibly. Even so, your likely to attract a lesser sentence than would result for an OTT speed.

Almost related - does that include a laser detector?

I don't see the point of laser detectors because if you have one pointing at you then it's inevitably too late to react to the signal from your machine and you will have a fine to pay.

Got my Valentine in the USA cost was £260.oo very cheap and the spec is the same

I think Marcos meant laser as the RoadAngel only comes with or without a laser detector module. Unless Marcos meant a seperate radar unit.

I have the Road Angel with laser detector, but as yet have had no laser guns pointed at me to comment as to it's worth.

My opinion is that if the car in front gets zapped, then I will have a chance to slow down if the Road Angel detects the laser. I have read in a review that the laser detector is very sensitive, and so we may have a chance.
I am very pleased with the Road Angel so far, and have owned it for about 2 months.

I have a Val-1 and a Geodesy... the V1 is fab, the ONLY detector I have tried that picks up live cameras at 300 yards BEFORE you go past!!!!! most seem to wait until you are on the little white lines, and too late to brake!

I've got a Road Angel which has been great but it didn't stop me getting caught on the A3 a couple of weeks ago. My laser alert went off but I'd already been clocked.

This was a comment in response to my same question/observation on another forum.
