535d Values

I had a test drive in a 54 reg 535d yesterday and was considering changing to it, but these cars seem to hold a good value at the moment. My concern is - how will the values be affected once the model is renewed as this can't be far away? Looking at cars a couple of years older I find a large difference, but they are the previous model. I'm concerned that I'll get stung here.

Well the E60 model was facelifted earlier this year, with new rear-lights + some minor tweaking of the front + interior changes, so the affect on pre-facelift E60 models should already have filtered through by now, I would have thought.

I think that that facelift was a pretty subtle change. Point taken though.

I'm thinking more of a newer model (E??)?

The 535d seems very popular; if you want a bargain go after a petrol engined car, particularly the V8s.

Looking at cars a couple of years older will be e39s and 530ds at best. An 04 reg 535d isnt going to be significantly impacted by the release of the new 5 series in 2010, simply because the buyer of a six year old car wont want to spend perhaps £35000 more for a new model one. Also there arent a big pile of 04 reg 535ds around, so demand will always be high.

A wiser man than me said to minimise depreciation always buy the oldest year of the exact model you want, so an early model e60 535d should be a wise purchase.

The ones that will be hit badly will be 09 reg cars, ie last of the old shape, but then run out models tend to be discounted more heavily...

I would agree. I just wasn't sure when the new model was likely to appear. About choosing the oldest year of the exact model - I tend to do this but I give it a year for the manufacturer to "fix the niggles".

I'd budget £24K for an M Sport with the right spec and toys and not too high miles.

Try finding an auto V8. I couldn't so bought a 535d M Sport 07 plate and am delighted.

Oh, and my car is facelifted but outside I can't tell. Inside its got a phone tray, a nice new gearstick, different door handles and eight progammable buttons. Its really hardly any different to look at but it has a tad more power and the gearshifts are, apparently, quicker.
