Funny you should mention it because I was looking to invest in the same for this weekend (Silverstone GP track) but a mate of mine has offered to lend me his HD palm camcorder. My only problem is working out how to secure it within the car. If anyoe has any ideas Id be grateful.
Id be interested to see what cam you end up purchasing.

Have a chat with Martin (mgbond) he supplied me with a camera mount which permanently fixes between the seats and works really well 1

Not sure if I can get him to make anymore but you never know.
The other option is get a clamp (go to mounting brackets)

This will grip the roll cage.
As for camera, I tried a sony hard drive camera but it kept stopping when breaking as it had built in software to stop disk jump. However on the gadget show las week they took one on the back of a bike while on track and it worked (although she was holding it creating a damper effect).
I would just get a small cheap DV camera off ebay and use that. Or get 2 (making sure one has AV in option) and get a dog camera for the roof rearwards.
