I got some replies about my first post, but the reason for asking about RADAR detectors was that I was followed for at least 3 miles (at their admission) by an unmarked police car down a dual carriageway. During this time I was passed by 7 or 8 cars all going much over the 60mph limit. I pulled out of an Island and overtook a row of cars. The plods pulled out (they were 4 or 5 cars behind) and trapped me over the limit. 33 yrs driving and nil points I had. No action was taken over the other cars ... I was followed just because I had a TVR. That`s a fact, Jack!. To add insult to injury they said "We thought you`d spotted us, he he". 3pts and £60. Had I got a radar detector the ***kers wouldn`t have had a hope.

When you say just over the limit, by how much? Assume they gave the full caution etc.

Have you seen the www.abd.co.uk site? Worth checking through any of the defences and what evidence they could produce. Sounds very unfair and very unprofessional from the BiB.

Not sure that's true. If they were measuring your speed using VASCAR (i.e. time taken to cover a set distance) then there would have been no radar or laser used. Correct, Madcop et al?

But they were following you - radar detectors don't throw out bags of nails onto the street you know

Did you do anything to alert their attention?

Not sure what I'd have done in your situaton, esp. if other cars were overtaking. I think I'd have waited for the Police car to pass/turn off if overtaking mean't me exceeding the speed limit though.

Some Police might stop you to look at your car.........but only if its rare and exciting, and they are bored...lol

The other week i was driving the Chim around Bedfordshire and a Traffic car followed me for about 10mins........turned out he was a TVR nut and was extremely pleasant.
It was only when i told him where i worked did he come out with "you boys in the Met must be doing well to afford a TVR". We both went away smiling.

I agree here. He was unlikey to be using radar or laser as you really need to be stationary to get a reading. Otherwise you would only get the difference between the two speeds (or double or some other wierd effect). They would have used either VASCAR or their calibrated speedo to measure distance/time or exact speed.

And that's if you can rely on them pushing the buttons at the right momement!

No. Specs works of time/distance. It has two cameras at a set dustance apart. Reads the reg number then works out the time taken for that reg to travel between the two cameras. Then works out speed.

Of course you can...we go on a weeks course just to learn how to press the buttons and theres a pass/fail test at the end spread out over 10 checks. If youre more than 0.1mph out over the combined 10 checks then you fail.....its as simple as that.

Thats why we never lose one at Court on pressing buttons etc.

Ahhh, but can you operate the video recorder. That is a more important system.

And after the test you are perfect!

Courts always accept what you say because they can!
