Hello BMW technical types

my 535d has an ongoing problem with iDrive. On a fairly regular basis (maybe 1 in 5), the iDrive fails to boot up when starting the car. The screen just stays blank, with the occasional grey flicker. It seems to happen most often with a warm start - ie when the engine has been off for 30 mins or less. This means almost all the functions of the car are completely dead until you stop the engine, leave it for an hour or so, then restart. I've tried the famous vol button, eject buttons combo to try and reboot - this doesn't work.

It's been back to the dealer three times - each time they've recoded the car and assured me the problem is fixed. Each time it ...err.... isn't.

anyone know of a dealer (in Kent or SE London) with experience of fixing these types of problems? or should I just raise it with BMW UK?

any ideas?

thanks

Time for Head Office in Bracknell to have a go,
I think.

At very least, they will want a heads-up to know
that their dealer has failed three times ...

Specifically ask your dealer to flash the ccc and install the latest version software - the only measure I can think of. My five had that a couple of times - it just rebooted when driving along (even if i wasn't fiddling with it).

From what I understand they can only install the most recent software; they have no way of installing an earlier level.

I would go back to the dealer one more time (I know, easy for me to say) and politely insist they solve the problem but not by just reloading the software as that clearly didn't work three times and is very unlikely to work if tried a fourth time. They should be able to get BMW UK to authorise a replacement system.

Have now raised it with BMW UK and logged an incident with them. They then called the dealer and gave them a bit of a rocket up the backside. Hopefully this means BMW UK will now help the dealer to sort of the problem...

The senior technician is calling me next week to discuss the problem....

If there's any hints or tips I can pass onto him, I'm all ears.

watch this space!
