Chesterfield Ice Machine
Discussion
I drove my Merc over the 'peaks' this am. Temp was -3.5 and roads were very very slippery. Traction Control flashed a few times. Not many cars were on the roads early this am. I did however see a cerb parked in Chesterfield station this morning that looked like it had just parked up. W reg 4.2 or speed six. So maybe this proves that they can be driven in icey slippery conditions. I certainly dont think I would have enjoyed driving a cerb early this am!

yes the saturn wheels. In fact I am sure the badge had a 'bottom' section and so it is prob a speed six.
Ah-ha,i didn't realise there were external clues to a cerbs identity. You learn something every day,as they say
"Cerbera" badge and saturn wheels = 4.2
"Cerbera Speed Six" badge and saturn wheels = speed six
"Cerbera 450" badge and RL7 wheels = 4.5

I've driven my Cerb to work and around for a least two days this week. Temps were -3.5 when starting off. I don't really see the problem.
My 4.5 is a pussycat down low. The back end is very twitchy but even when it gives its quite calm about it. In fact quite a lot of fun to move the tail around at easily catchable speeds so that you get a bit of practice for when it happens in the dry at much greater speeds.
The biggest problem I have with my Cerb at this time of year is visibility at night, and the fact that I don't like driving 16 odd miles to work when the oil is never really heating up to proper temperature during the journey.
Oh and my BMW has electrically heated seats

I guess I dont like a driving challenge before I feel totally woken up , defrosted and alive in the mornings. I like to know that I can concentrate but without having to be in extreme concentration mode that the cerb demands. I do however have to drive through pretty challenging rural routes (no gritting, very very steep and wet lanes etc...). Downhill one of these in a cerb is scarey at -3.5. The Merc isnt much better but it feels a little easier and safer.
Yup! Been driving mine everyday too. Darn thing avoided use during the Summer and Monsoon Season, so I'll be poked up the chuff with a cactus before I stop using it now I've got it back.
It was barely recognisable yesterday under the frozen fog. Took some persuading to open the door in the morning, but got in eventually. Avoided icy slopes, but otherwise no probs. Have not had a rear wheel drive car yet that does not twitch in the ice. Suspect the six is a little more forgiving than AJP8s, but nothing short of major snow drifts will stop me using her.
Did hit some debris on the road on way home last night from a Fiesta that lost control and got rear ended. Biggest threat out there are dipsticks who can't drive according to conditions and twunts who walk / ride down dark country roads without lights / hi vis / on wrong side of road. When people walk with dark clothing on, in the road with their back to the traffic, I just want to run them over out of anger at their arrogance and stupidity.

Dad currently hasnt got a choice at the moment as the Smart is being repaired (an idiot drove into it) - but its not a good snow/ice car either (720kilos, no wheelbase, difficult to avoid it coming on boost) - infact, whenever it got bad last winter he always took the Cerb because it was easier/safer!!
