Can anyone tell me the wire colours going into the dash dimmer switch. Like a prized numpty, I chopped them out and cannot find where they are in the instrument wiring loom. My dash lights won't work without them as the circuit is broken....

They goto big balast resiters in the engine bay. I can't remember the colours but if you find the resisters just follow them back.

Early Tasmins had several feet of wire coiled up behind the switch acting as a series resistance to drop the voltage and dim the lights in two stages.
SD1-columned cars have a wirewound rheostat on the right-hand side of the shroud that gives you continuously variable brightness (well, dimness!).
Which do you have?
