Having just recieved the first quote for a bathroom refurb' I remain in slight shock! Bathroom is a small 8 feet x 6feet so rip out every thing including old wall tiles. Plumb in new stuff to existing services and retile walls. I supply all new suite and tiles + fittings.

2750 pounds seems a tad strong for labour! I reckon 4 days work should be job done.

Where are those Poles when you need them?

I did my bathroom myself and it's great - but it took two months smile

Because it's got a push-fit plastic chassis?

I wouldn't let my butler work for as little as that.

I just paid about two-thirds that. Included completely gutting the room (walls tiled floor-to-ceiling), new tiles throughout, skimmed ceiling, new [different size] radiator and quite a lot of new plumbing.

It took my man 10 days, some of them a little short perhaps. No way you'll get a good job in 4.

ETA, that's in Oxon/Bucks, not tractor country wink, for a similar (slightly larger) room.

No way can a poor pensioner weeping like me afford those rates, Matt has now said that he is going to do the job. All I have to do is assist in boshing down the old stuff.

yikes

Your not kidding... 4 days tops. Depends on the exact layout of the bathroom, but I plumber I know reckons most bathroom are a 3 day job.

Day 1 - Rip out. He also includes the floor boards because he says 9 times out of 10 they will have been wet at some point and will need replacing.
Day 2 - Re-fit. Obviously this assumes existing serbices.
Day 3 - Re-tile. Ok so technically it is longer than 3 days because he comes back later to grout for a couple of hours. But you get the idea.

Labour? You might find a bloke that will do it for £200/day, but most are going to be more like £250-300/day.

When looking for a plumber try looking for one that generally doesn new build/conversion stuff, than somedody who changes taps, tanks, etc.

The site boys will be a lot faster as they only get a few days for a first fix, and another few days for a second. If it's a small place they might get less than a day each...

You can get a good job in 4 days. Your average bathroom isn't fully tiled, so ripping out and re-tiling will be a much bigger job. I take it your ~£1800 didn't include the suite or tiles?

My guess is he's too busy, most tradesmen will bung a high quote in when they're really busy.

2750 defintiely just for labour? sounds alot, if its as simple as the job sounds.

Oh and why not save a few quid and strip the stuff yourself? Im useless at diy but I happily stripped out a large bathroom in an afternoon last summer, if its recent it should all have isolator valves.

Love the look of the bathroom Phil, but where is the soap holder and the naked lady in shower.?

Good luck,

Just had a plumber fit a new bath in my bathroom.

I love the way it now leans, and whats with the use of plastic pipes and not copper?

Cost me £600 for 3 days work, last time I had a shower fitted it cost me £600 for one days work.

Christmas project will be to repair the mess, plus try and get some of my money back.

All the very best trades come with strong recommendations, then of course they are booked solid. Our roofing thatcher is booked solid, we booked him 4 years ago and he still is late to start the jobcoffee
