has anyone had the pleasure of owning a 400 and a 500 and was there much difference on average mpg?

If it is a decision of which one to purchase, then you may wanna consider again why you want one wink

I can't imagine it will be that different, but I don't know.

It largely depends on how you drive it, does it have an aftermarket ecu/chip, has it been set up properly.

There are almost to many factors to make the comparison.

£45 to fill up a TVR with V-Power, or a Golf diesel with, er, diesel.
Effective range; TVR - 200miles, Golf 460.

If you are worried by these stats, you are in the wrong market car-wise!

Fair difference I'd sayyes

My old 400 Griff used to average around 24 to 26 mpg, but on a good run at sensible speeds, I could get it to 30 or just over.

My 500 averages out at 18 to 20, but again on a good run it'll do around 22 to 24, I've seen 28 mpg only the onceyikes

The way I look at it is that I do around 5k a year, so if you take my average MPG's for both cars, the 500 will use about 50 gallons more.

Not a lot in the great scheme of thingsscratchchin
Never had a 400, but as far as the 500 is concerned, what the man said.

Got 28mpg on the Le Mans trip last year at 80mph.

I've owned both and I have no idea what the mpg is. If I was worried about that I'd buy a diesel Chinkychunko, pore over my petrol receipts with a calculator and rub my fingerless-gloved hands with glee at the money I'd saved. Then I'd bore everybody to death recounting how many miles to the gallon I get (like old folk who tell you that 5am is the best part of the day).

I'm sure the fuel consumption is far more dependent on how you drive it than the capacity of the engine. Just buy one smile

"Normal mpg for Wol (500) is 23-25, regularly get 28-29 on long runs, worst ever was on London Thunder, 4mpg. Yes FOUR mpg.

But then, with every group I've ever been with, with the same vehicle, I always get the best mpg. When I had my Firestorm (Honda 1000cc V-twin motorbike), most in the group were getting 28-35, some in the high teens, I struggled to get worse than about 38, even got 50 once.

Glad to see you boys also getting mid-twenties on a run – I was worried I wasn't driving the 500 hard enough.

That's pretty impressive seeing as you're up until 4.00am each morning downing tequila slammers!

But if your need to know mpg is to calculate range, I wouldn't worry - I just make sure I fill up when it's 1/4 full (because I know that when it gets to 1/8 the engine suddenly goes quiet... redface

Think i've got the best fuel guage in the world! When the needle points on the E it really REALLY is empty. Not 1 gallon left for 20 odd miles more. EMPTY! Took two AA call outs to work that out though biggrin

hehe went to wales last year with a group of tvrs,i had to carry 2 gallon cans in the boot, because i kept running out of fuel way before anyone else.maybe something to do with backing off from the convoy prior to every sweeping bend then flooring it through and out the other side, then hanging on the gears waiting for all the pops and bangs, god i miss those welsh roads.
the evo triangle at dusk with a 415bhp cerb on your tail (heaven on earth)
