I recently did this pop art style painting of a Sagaris as a gift for a friend, now I'm doing a painting in a similar style of a Lamborghini Miura that I'm planning on selling for profit.

It will be on a 100cm by 40cm Windsor & Newton canvas (£20) using acrylics and varnished twice. It will take approximately 5-6 hours of my time to paint it.

What does the collective wisdom of PH think would be a fair price?

cost is ~£50 at £5 an hour labour rate,
but a the end of the day it depends what some one will pay for it.

i'll start at £100

(but i'm a tight git hehe)

You make a very good point about it depending on how much someone will pay for it, I suppose in a way that is what I'm asking!

I'd be happy to sell it for £100.

It depends where you sell it (if it's to be physically located - rather than on 'Tinternet). Selling in a posh gallery you should triple the cost - as people WANT to spend a lot as they think it 'must be good if it costs that price'. It's as bad to price too low as too high.

Try asking the local art shop (where you bought the canvas from!) if they would be interested in putting it up on the wall on a sale or return basis. They will obviously want their cut, but it could be the beginning of a lucrative business for you. If you're happy with £100, the shop might sell it for £150, keeping the difference.

Good luck!

Well some of the absolutely crap you see for £450 and more, you have a very good chance of making well over £200 I think.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll try the art shop where I bought the canvas. Ideally I could turn this into a small business venture, as I have a graduate job lined up starting next September. I was going to work all the hours I could at minimum wage to save enough for some travelling but maybe some temping and this as a sideline would work.

Its going to appeal more to the owner or fan of that particular marque. As said above put it on the relivent owners club forum.

That's very good. Don't undersell it. At least £250.

Got most of it done, just need to add some greys and white. I've made a list of a few local art shops/galleries and will drop in once I've finished it. That is, of course, if I can bring myself to sell it!

Good point, if I had a Sagaris that would definitely appeal to me for home/office.

If oyu were to repeat the painting the only suggestion I would make is what about toned versions? The Sagaris' I see tend to be in bright bold colours, I'm suggesting trying to get that brightness but how about a pale wash of that colour? That way if you have a bright organe Sagaris you could have a personalised version. If so worth not only goin onto the owner forums but if you're going to do it as a side-line also advertise in owener magazines.

Whatever you do do, make sure you continue to enjoy your art.

Of course it might be an idea to show the Sagaris painting on the TVR forum here etc. If after that you casually mention that you're not averse to commissions, suggest a sensible price and maybe a week turnaround time... Well who wouldn't want an original painting of their car? You may have to be a bit careful with any advertising regs on PH etc but if this could get you out of a stinky minimum wage type job it's got to be worth a go, no? biggrin Might as well make use of the talent!

Well a 110cm x 47cm canvas print of a photo would cost about £120 - so more than that

Going to stick it in the classifieds for now. No joy with art shops, but may have a lead through a friend of a friend who owns a gallery, once I've done a few more.

I think you should stick it in the classifieds (along with estimates given for future work)

Again, don't under price your work! smile

(Might, just might be worth sending a quick email to Garlic/Ted offering your service and letting them have a commission on Art work sold.(through the PH shop) If you dont ask....)
