more pics from the Hebrides

Thanks chaps.
Professional? Perish the thought.
The little Fishing boat is in Rodel Harbour on South Harris - a great mooring... Also a FAB hotel there which we visit as often as poss. Recommended (but ONLY in good weather!! - I'm convinced that in good weather the Outer Hebrides are one of the best places to be on the planet. In bad weather, they are simply crap - absolutely NOTHING to do except get wet and cold). I always recommend to people (without boats!) to come to the west coast mainland in May or June, and IF the weather is good, hop on a ferry. If not - stay put.

The second to last one, with the sunburst effect - have you added that in PP, or is it genuine lens flare?
Lovely pics. Fantastic velvia-style saturation.
That's my one concession to Photoshop! Lovely pics. Fantastic velvia-style saturation.

Aston, photographic ability and I suppose you're a good looking bloke to boot!! Swine!!
Seriously though those are some awesome images. Are they planned or do you just come across something while out and think "that will make a nice shot"??
I love the two birds in flight though. The amount of times I've tried to get a shot like that!!!
I did a course on Photoshop earlier this year and learnt, amongst other things, how to put rain into images!!! Would have been more useful to take it out

Keep up the good work

Bit of both. I know many of the Islands quite well, so know where the good locations are, I just need the right light, which usually means an early start. Most of the images on that page were taken very early in the morning (In June we get about 22 hours light and twilight this far north - unlike today when we'll have about 7!) - so I tend to do a few hours photography then head back to the hotel for breakfast. The magical thing is that you can have the entire place to yourself at that time of day. It's about the most peaceful place I've ever found (unless I'm in the Aston)

Thanks for the info though, maybe there's hope for me yet!!

How about a GetCarter GetPhotographing West Coast Scotland tour ?
Mid June'ish when the weathers "nice"
As I've mentiond (far too many times) the way to do the Highlands is, if at all possible, to wait until a high pressure comes down from the north and settles over Scotland between Easter and Midsummers day (avoiding Whitsun). It happens at least twice each year in those months and one gets 3 or 4 days of cracking weather each time. Then just jump on a plane to Inverness and hire a car. At that time flights are never full, and neither are hotels/B&Bs - plus, the roads are empty (evil grin) and the Hebrides are only a few hours distant. Oh and if you think you'll have to rent a Nissan Satsuma, there are other cars to rent from Inverness Airport if you have the cash (Zonda or Koenigsegg suit you?)Mid June'ish when the weathers "nice"
More than happy to meet any PH photoheads in the local pub for a dram and a chat. I can also recommend decent B&Bs etc and also decent photoshoot locations.
Like wot I took this morning whilst walking Charlie
