924 Le Mans edition
Discussion
This summer I bought one, a bit the worse for wear and have started refurbishing it
the guy I bought it off mentioned it was a special edition, but I didn't pay much attention at the time, I've looked into it and it turns out it is a Le Mans edition, released in 1981 (though mine is 1980
) to celebrate the 6th, 12th & 13th places in overall rankings that the 924 carrera gt achieved in Le Mans in 1980. It has the rear ARB, the 4 stud turbo wheels, the pinstripe interior, electric mirrors and windows, pus the pull out metal sunroof. They only sold 100 of these in the UK, and AFAIK all were in white with a side stripe and le mans lettering on the side.
Mine was white but has been resprayed black (but not door shuts etc. which are still white)
My question is this, should I get it resprayed in white, and re-create the LeMans edition look it had, or just finish off the spray job in black (I prefer this colour, despite the current fashion for white). Or is this vandalism of a rare model, or is the LeMans edition just like a "Rolling Stone golf" and not worth worrying about.

This is the second time I've heard of a 924 lemans, yet to my knowledge (and I'm possibly wrong) there was only a 924s le mans which was a 924se (special equipment).
I don't know if it was a genuine very rare model that has virtually no documentation, or it was a dealer model (stickered up car made to sell easier usually with a radio cassette and other accessories) or is a few owners who are confused or try to make the car appear more special than it is.
However that aside you have a project 924. It is worth about the same in white or black, and resprayed in any colour is worth less than original. So basically choose which you prefer.
You have the potential to make a very nice car, those wheels are relatively rare, as they are for the 4 stud 924 as opposed to the 924 turbo.
Basically just enjoy it.

In 1980 Porsche made 1030 Le Mans specials they were Alpine white with red yellow and black lines along the door ‘rub’ line with le Mans written between the front wheel arch and the front door. It also had the rear window spoiler from the 924 turbo.
The interior was black leatherette, with a white piping and a black/white pinstripe fabric.
The engine and gearbox was standard (125hp), as you say it has a rear roll bar as well as the front one, the shocks were uprated as well, 100 rhd models were made for the UK. The factory designation for the car was M426.
I would try to restore it too original if you can because it is a rare and interesting car, not to be confused with the later 924S Le Mans which had the 160hp engine from the 944.

Thanks for that, is there any way to confirm from the chassis number that this is a genuine example, I found a picture of one in an old copy of "Classic Motor Mart"The interior was black leatherette, with a white piping and a black/white pinstripe fabric.

All the features are as described, apart from the paintwork (I can't see whether the stripe was there or not).
I replaced the rear spoiler/window since the spoiler had rotted badly in a couple of places(
). The front shocks and springs were totally gone too (bilstein I think) so I replaced them with turbo shocks and lowering springs from the Porschshop, to preserve the original ride height. The interior has the white piping on the seats, but on the drivers seat the cloth part has split in a couple of places, is this material still available?
It's not a fast car, but cornering is better than any other car I've owned, now I've sorted the suspension anyway
. On some corners I know well I can take them at 10-20 mph faster than I can in my Saab turbo
(which is no slouch). There is a 924 Le mans near me and its black with a jade green stripe, le mans stickers on the side and the interior looks like its black with jade piping! Looks tatty and original too!
Anyone interested in buying my 924 Turbo series 2 (177bhp. I don't know much about these and inherited it from a friend but I think it must be quite rare also.

There was a black one around herefordshire for a while, not seen it lately though.Anyone interested in buying my 924 Turbo series 2 (177bhp. I don't know much about these and inherited it from a friend but I think it must be quite rare also.
I thought they did 50 black & 50 white.
Put the car back to original if you're gonna shell out on a respray.
Nervus, how much for the 924T?
Strawman, If you get in touch with Porsche GB, Reading they will confirm all the details
about your car, what extras were fitted new, which dealer supplied it etc, and of course
confirm it is a genuine Le Mans. It is worth giving Southbound trimmers a ring to see if
they can get the original material to re trim the seats.
