Hi,

On occasion when starting the car there is a mettalic clang from the vehicle. It lasts only a second or so.

The car has been into the garage last week but it did not do it for them. The law of the sod.

I need the car over the next 2 weeks. Can anyone offer advice.

If is the starter motor not dissengaging correctly will this cause permenant damage?
Has anyone else had similar?
Can I do any low level mechanics to stop it.

Cheers in advance.

Sounds like it's a little lazy in disengaging. As long as you don't rev the engine when it's still partially engaged, you're ok for the moment. Can't see it becoming drastically worse in the next fortnight.

Regardless, this isn't a big job so try not to worry about it. I've had similar problems with starters that have promptly fixed themselves.

Thanks I will PM him if he doesn`t read this.

I will try and not rev on start up. Just sounds like somneone is standing behind you dropping all their pots and pans.

Why do you give it any gas on start-up, just turn the key after the engine check light has gone out?
