A little advice and any comments appreciated,

I'm considering changing jobs after 7-8 months,
I started with the company after looking for a change and a new challenge, honest reasons.
The position looked promising, with a large multi-national motor company with a strong brand across several motoring related sectors.
However the job I'm doing is not really what I expected, colleagues with other divisions within the company who have the same role are doing what I expected.

My role (in theory) is a Product Manager type position with events and marketing ties, however I've ended up really being a Support Sales desk and Logistics role. As well as the basics of my originally job.

The problem now is I've lost all enthusiasm for the role and its becoming a real chore. I really wanted it to be a strong step on the learning, experience, and career ladder. And I don’t just doing a job its not in my blood.

So My questions are;

If I do go for a move am I likely to be over looked as a "Job Hopper"

Am I in danger of having a bad stint on my CV.

Am I being premature? This feeling has been hanging over me for about 2 months now?

I’m generally going looking again for Events and Marketing positions, some thing to get my drive passion into.

From major events like the London Boat Show and Product Launches across the UK, and abroad. Having a product I can really get excited about and a role I can get my teeth into, this is where my passion lies and when I excel?

Any thought’s appreciated, sorry if this is a little disjointed

Also , sorry, can any one recommend any contacts? I’m on the M40 Corridor equally between London Birmingham etc, with good transport links, would be keen to work in the city.

A big thanks in advance if you managed to read this far!

Dave

Dave,

How long have you stayed in previous roles?

When I look at CV's if there is a history of short term service then that does ring bells but one isn't an issue, i've joined a company where it just wasn't right my fears were clarified as about a week after I left the company went into receivership and was phoenixed. It never caused me any harm when applying for the next job after that.

Job hopper is serial short stays in jobs not a one off. Sounds like your someone whom has drive and a will to get on.

So good luck finding a new role that gives you what you want.

I don't know your industry but is it normal for change every 2 -3 years, I guess the negative is it looks like you need a change every 3 years but that maybe your industry average in which case it doesn't matter.

But if you know the job you have is wrong and won't change then it's best to move on.

The best thing you can do is to be open, honest, but tactful with your employer.

If you came to me and I saw a CV with a 9 month last job, I would be asking serious questions about the role you took on, and if it was not what you expected, what you did about it.

It may be the case that your management do not know of your dissatisfaction, and if you raise these issues they can do something about it - stranger things have happened!

On the other hand, they may be honest with you and let you know that your role is not going to change in the near future, and you can happily move on with that knowledge and your 'career time' wasted is minimised.
