I have just bought a 1984 Tasmin 350i. One of the pop up lights is not popping up although the light itself works. How do I go about repairing this.

Tr7 motor probably needs reparing by an autoelectric shop .Should be a chapter about it in Steve Heath's wedge bible , have you got one yet ?

TR7's have a Pecton box in the glove compartment, I think it will work or not work both lights at the same time(up and down not on and off) but mine seemed to have a mind of its own, sometimes they went up and down like a brides nightie.
I changed the car instead of the box.

Ruled out electrical and linkage gremlins first?

Idon't think it is electrical because the light itself is working, i.e. lighting up. We only picked the car up over the weekend so haven't really had a good look at it yet I just wondered if someone on here had cured the same problem.

It was just a thought before the ripping out and finding its a diode in the fuse box problem.

If I had to wager money I'd go for a shitty connection to the pod motor unit. There's a cluster of wires that come out of it (they're accessible through the big hole under the nose of the car) that often corrode.
After that it could be that the motor brushes are shot. Possible, though rare, is that the output shaft has seized causing the motor to fry.
Try rotating the black knob on the end of the motor anticlockwise; either it'll be seized, or it'll turn, in which case either you can wind the pod all the way up, or (if the electrics are still working) you'll move it a short distance and the motor will kick in and the pod will go up.
Nothing to it, no black magic, no auto electricians necessary.
I'm guessing this was the car on Ebay a few days back?

with a poor connection on the copper strip inside due to corrosion.
These lights are a pain!

Another suggestion is to check the relays. I had a problem with the pod going up and down even with the ignition off. Try the classic of switching relays with the other headlight.

Let us know how you get on.

As said, it could be a few things, mainly Electrical.
I don't think its the Diode as one pod is still working.
As said 1st check the motor is not stuck, so use the knob on the motor to lift the light manually.
Watch out though as it may decide to start to work and pop up then down again.
Then check the relays and fuses.
Then check the earths.
If not of these your going to have to take the light out, so you can get to the pod motor and wires.

p.s.
Add your self the the owners list.
