Hi all. Im a newbie and im looking to buy a Monaro somewhere round end of Feb March time (waiting for house to sell). Ive been looking online for a month now and i was wondering what to lookout for etc. I would really like a VXR but ill only have 15-17k to play with. I think im looking at 04 to a high mileage 05 for that money and i would really like it to be in impulse blue. I know its a girly thing with the colour but at the mo i have a blue sri vec and when i was looking i wanted a silver gsi and ive not been really happy ever since so this time it has to be right. Last resort black ;0)

I may be looking to sell mine in the new year in your budget too - not supercharged but nicely tuned.

If you are looking at the different models of Monaro you may want to see my thread "Vauxhall's V8s compared". The 6.0VXR is probably the one to go for, not for the larger engine but because it uses a different version of the gearbox with shorter ratios. If you buy a CV8 then you need to factor in shortening the gearing to get the best from it, by changing the gearbox or differential. I changed the gearbox on my 05 CV8 though many would argue changing the diff is easier. Also I suggest you read the Autocar road tests on their web site. Happy hunting!

granada203028 feels wronged by Vauxhall since they shipped the CV8 with a different gearbox to the one in the brochure.

Oh LOL tbh ill prob never notice the difference and im used to a pooh ratio gearbox as i have the F23 in the vec, although saying that 107ish mph in 3rd is great for dropping and going.

Just trying to offer some friendly advice so the guy knows what he is looking at and can make an informed decision. Others have suggested making mods so mine is to shorten the gearing.
