Just wondering what kind of power / torque a 400 would make with 500 heads and appropriate cam ?

Has anyone got an engine like this / had one dynoed ?

Try speaking to V8 Developments they should give you an idea, also they have a selection of cams, also you will need to inlarge the Inlet manifold/Trumpets/plenum. Not just the heads to get the most out of the setup.

It is quite possible you cant use the high lift of the cam, without pocketing your pistons. There was probably a good reason that TVR (power) only put BV heads on the 430/450/500's, might be worth asking Power.

Don't forget the 10bolt vs 14bolt differences, and the early later made for tin or composite gaskets - not insurmountable but you need to be aware.

Can somebody confirm if all 450's were pocketed? Considering a cam change and wondering if I can guarantee a Stealth or 218 will have clearence.

No they weren't, all the hc's where due to the hc being high lift cam, but some of the non hc's are actually hc's!!, unfortunetly the only easy well to tell is pop the dizzy out and have a look down the front cover to see if it is running an adjustable roller timing chain.

And that nice irregular lumpy idleevil,i would imagine the bigger engines tone this down somewhat though over the 400,sthumbupdid i read some where that the Piper 285 cam goes in with no piston machining(suprising),may be wrong of courserolleyesso V8 racing, whats the outcome of fitting ther 500 heads,i would imagine if the chamber volume is the same and those bigger valves and ports matching inlet manifold & fitted with a spiky cam, trumpet mods etc, this would make for a revvy 400 motorbiggrin

Or if you're unlucky, lower gas speed, wet port walls, loss of swirl, poor atomisation and lost torque... just another view wink

Maybe, big valves and ports dont always kill a motor, the thing would have to rev though to make use all this equipment,i have used Cams in the past not recommended for road use and found them usable on the roads, all depends how the motors put together i suppose.

I was told that a Stealth isn't guaranteed to fit a 450 :-(
