PCM2 issue

I have an issue with the PCM2 in my 2003 C4S that I am hoping someone can offer some advice on. Basically, there is no sound at all and the radio, CD changer, phone do not work, although the PCM device operates and the sat nav works with no voice commands. The error I get is:

System Error: Phone, Amplifier CD Changer not available.

The system was looked at by JZ Machtech yesterday who got as far as telling me the issue lies in the MOST system, but as they have limited function on their testing system, they could go no further. By my reckoning , it could be that one of the MOST linked modules is not working or the optic cable is compromised somewhere. However, it is very hard to identify where the issue lies.

Prior to taking this to an OPC, I wonder if anyone has had a similar issue and got this sorted?

Hi, yes basically you answered your own question, it will be a MOST controlled component gone down, the way i diagnose this is the a MOST loop i made, basically fitting it on the most lead to each user substituting it, if it start working thats the one, sometimes if you look into the CD changer there wont be a visible red light, does not mean its the CD changer at fault, could be a component prior to it, but a good sign of an issue. The fact you have no sound could be a separate issue, normally the Amp gone down, these suffer from battery jump start spiking, however i think you need to go to your dealer to confirm, we see lots

Thanks for your reply and helping steer me in the right direction. Looks like I need to check the MOST loop out. Are there any independents that can do this or is this an OPC matter?

to be honest it would only be 1/2 hour labour and thats if you get charged, small time diagnosis often isnt

have you tried taking the fuse out for 10 seconds - could just need a reset - know it sounds silly but only take two ticks so worth a try ??

If only it was that simple! I have tried a number of measures including battery disconnect, fuses, system reset, pulling the MOST connectors etc, but unfortunately no success.

This may be worth a mention, Nav TV have just developed a bluetooth telephone system working in conjunction with the PCM II system. It does away with the sim drawer (which always seems to break) and will pair to any handset!! Just sent a car down now for the system to be fitted, will post back the results!!

Yes, should be sorted later today (I hope). Took the car to Northways and they diagnosed issue as a faulty telephone module (under the driver's seat). As the PCM unit runs a check on start-up on all MOST connected modules, as the telephone module is first in the loop the PCM unit was returning a system error and not functioning fully.

I did read your post and as you have PCM1 (I assume without a MOST bus), I would suspect that the system is running a similar check on startup and as the CD changer may be faulty from what you describe is not allowing full functionality of the system.

I can recommend Paul at Northway (nr Reading) if this helps you. They have been really good in sorting the issue for me.

Forgive the bump - just wondering if anyone else (Freewheeler?) has tried out or heard reports on this TOOKIPOR product? Sounds like something I might be interested in...

I have just asked re NavTV's bluetooth kit and PCM 2 (software2.0) for a 2003 turbo. Also interested in their iPod adapter as both could be fitted at same time.
Initial reply from company was their system only for 2005 onwards. This probably relates to Porsche's change over to DVD based SatNav around that time. However, both are MOST based sysems so I have gone back to them to question.
Don't know whether upgrading PCM software to version 3.0 would allow it to work?
Will keep you posted when I get a response.

I've got exactly the same issue, but mine says the amplifier and CD changer are unavailable. It did come back once, briefly, but then went again. I may try pushing some cables around the amp / cd changer but aside from that I've no clue.
I've been too scared to take it to an OPC; but from what I understand it's either that or install a new 3rd party system (Which seems to cost £2k+ from asking around as it requires new speakers / amp / headunit. Ouch)

Got no further information as of yet, customer is having the unit fitted over the next couple of days! I'll post his feedback as soon as possible!!

Hi, I have had the same fault on my 2004 996, Porsche quoted £1200 to fit a new phone module!!!!!!!!!
After making some enquiries I found that the fault was most likely in the phone module screwed down under the drivers seat, having removed it - 4 screws and 2 ten mil bolts I looped the fibre optic light and the sound returned, the unit in my car is a Motorola which when you speak to the Parts folks at Porsche is an exchange unit at approx £450. Where the £1200 came from who knows.
Please let me know if this works and if you have any success in finding a cheaper way of replacing the part.

To resolve my issue (which required a new phone module under the drivers seat), I went down the exchange route (the dealer paid in my case as I had the car under 1 week). This was far cheaper than the cost of a replacement which is probably where the £1200 comes from. Unless you can source the phone module from elsewhere, the exchange option may be cheapest.
