Hi
My TVR is currently up for sale - I won't take the p$*s and tell you which one. I've just had a very lengthy e-mail from a "French" chap via Africa asking lots of questions.
If you see an Iris Blue car advertised (other than mine obviously) check carefully - no doubt it will be cropping up soon...
Cheers, Carnage

This is what we have said to each other so far..
Hello!
The car is still available muchly, thank you for your enquiring.
I'm glad to hear you are looking for a TVR - they are a real handful that only a real man can tackle. I am suring you will be fine. A Chimaera will be an excellent second car, and in your hands will no doubt be able to handle Mans and other French circuits.
1 - I have had the car for just over 2 years (deux ans!). The first owner was a man called Rumpole Bailey.
2 - The car was maintained by TVR main dealers.
3 - The car is used four - five times per weeks.
4 - The car has never been crashed. As per the advert, the front has been resprayed to remove stone chips.
5 - The car has only one modification - the sprocket sub-flange has been lightened along with the minge drive.
6 - The car has a full service history but I don't have a scanner. I could fax it to you if you provide me with a fax number.
7 - The tyres are about half-worn. The chassis is immaculate. The brakes are fine.
8 - The car is always run on Mobil 1 80W/40. The last service was 6 months ago.
9 - No mechanical problems at all.
10 - The car is always garaged. The MOT is for one year. What else would you like to know?
11 - I do not have a camera to hand. The VIN is 0756-N0FCUCING-C7AN3. The engine number is 08458505505.
12 - The car is very clean. It has no hard top.
13 - All the photos I have are on the website,
Please do not hesitate to e-mail me if you have any further questions. I need to sell the car very soon.
Thanks, Paul

I'll stick my neck out here, but I think the buyer might be genuine! He's asked some general questions that you would about any car, but some of the specific questions would not have been asked by a scammer who knew nothing about TVRs: he appears to be aware that these cars might have an independent rather than main dealer service history; that some are used on track days or only as a weekend car; that they pick up stone chips.
A couple of little details make me think he really is French too. He has a proper e-mail address (wanadoo.fr is one of the biggest ISPs in France), it's not a 'dodgy' 14-day hotmail type account. He asks 'MOT ok?' The equivalent of an MOT in France is the CT; anyone selling a car in France will always use those same words in the description: CT ok. They also always describe the tyres as being recent or new. He ends his e-mail with his forename in lower case and his surname in capitals: that's how it's done in France.
On the other hand, it's not particularly easy to import any TVR into France without a Certificate of Conformity. It's certainly no easier to import a Chimaera or a Cerbera than other TVRs though. And quite why he'd want a photo of the VIN and engine numbers is beyond me....
Ok, I'll go up in the aeroplane now and await the missiles.
