Are there any sat nav systems which just come on and start working as soon as they get power? I’ve used both Tomtom & Garmin before and good as they are they still require you to switch on, click through all the disclaimer rubbish and then actually program a destination. What I really want is something that can be wired to always power up with the ignition, display my current position and make a noise only if a speed cam POI is coming up. Like a snooper but with the nav display if you see what I mean. Does anyone know of any systems that work or can be made to work like this?

That's what happens with a Garmin Nuvi - I should have thought it was quite common. Of course it depends on the unit being plugged in, whereas you are quite likely to have removed it from the car for security.

You get a safety warning screen, but if you don't respond it goes away quite soon.

I have two Tomtom 500s. Both of these fire up as soon as the ignition is switched on. The units have to be in the mount and the power cable has to be plugged in but otherwise, no probs.

OK, thanks. Could’ve sworn the last ones I tried (borrowed) just sat forever on the disclaimer screen. Guess I wasn’t patient enough!
