The engine in my tiv is dead......

Bad news guys and girls. Following on from my Help....I'm tivless thread, I finally managed to get the Tasmin to the garage today. With have had a quick look at it and found out that there's a large hole in the engine casing at the bottom 
Not sure what the total damage is until the car goes over the pit tomorrow, but it doesn't look too good Might be repairable but not sure. Looks like the tiv going to be off the road for a while Anyone know where I get a decent reconditiond Ford 2.8 Capri engine from which can be deliverd to Essex? Anyone got a grand that they would like to donate to me..........?

Sounds like you've thrown a rod. Usual cause (apart from the rare one of a conrod bolt snapping) is that the big-end bearing failed and tried to weld the rod to the crank. So all the other bearings will be scrap as well, plus there's your hole (in the block or the sump?): throw the engine in a skip.

Nope.. Thinking about it, Podie is right. Being in Essex its got to be fairly easy to get hold of an engine so problem ought to be not as big as we thought. Gives you the chance to spruce up your engine bay while you get a nice new shiny one fitted..

Simon - do you if the engine is a 2.8 one? If so has it got just the two exhaust ports or has it got three? Is it manual or electronic fuel injection? If it's got the 3 exhauts ports then it's no good as it means that I would have to modify the exhaut manifolds, which we cost me even more money. Also if it's electronic fuel injection, I would have to rip the current manual system out as well.

Thanks Paul. I would put an ad in the classifieds, but I can't seem to access them at the moment. Don't know why though? All I get is a page of brackets with numbers in them. This also happend to me a while back, but the page came back on it's own. Now they have gone again?
The eingine itself needs to be the right one (see my earlier post on this thread), otherwise it would have to modified to fit, which would then cost more money that I haven't got. Thanks again Paul.

(lift from someone in a proper car would be nice though......) I'll hide it out of the way/sight anyway. Thanks for the offer of cheering me up, but you are far to busy at the meetings as it is, so you will not have time to do that. Don't worry about me though, as the way my luck is and the way things are going for me at the moment, I probably won't be in this world much longer anyway

Thanks Paul. I wouldn't have the cheek to ask you anyway. Sorry to sound really melodramatic. I know that it's only a car at the end of the day, but I love it to bits and I'm just fed up of everything going wrong for me lately I think that I'll just drive there in the Escort and hide in the corner out of the way....

Hey Mark, cheer up mate. We all have bad times. It just makes you appreciate the good ones when they come along.
Once you get it back it will be better than ever and you should get some trouble free motoring out of it.

Mark - Spoken to the guy with the car and discovered its in Cornwall.. Not terribly helpful I'm afraid.
