I have just redone the firmware and put new maps on my TT1. I did have the PocketGPS cameras before, but will need to start from scratch again.
I have the choice of giving TT another £19, or paying PocketGPSWorld £19, for 12 months of updates in each case.

Does anyone know which would be the best to go for based on accuracy and / or ease of installation?
TIA.

There is no comparison between the two - The PocketGPSWorld cameras are by far the most accurate, detailed and up to date. Also, just as important, if you have any difficulty or want any tips on the cameras or any other GPS subject, the PocketGPSWorld.com website is the TOP ONE in the whole of the Internet (have you ever tried getting any help from the TomTom website?).

njsolutionsuk - Don't do this. It's piracy and against the rules of posting on this forum.

I've used the GPSWorld ones for a while and they're superb, mostly for the mobile sites. I just pay £2 every 6 months or so though when I can be bothered to download and update them. Works for me since I don't need them updating more often and don't do enough motorway miles to warrant the temporary locations.

Thanks for the replies. I installed the PocketGPS warnings before Christmas, and they are working fine. I have the more helpful voices installed as well - got these early 2006 from PocketGPS and they work with the latest software, maps and warnings.

One improvement, and I don't know whether this is from newer software, maps or warnings, is the presence (most of the time) of the current speed limit (TT-One). I like this, though when I was in Northern Ireland over Christmas, quite a few of the limits were inaccurate. Current speed goes red and there is a "bong" when you exceed the limit, but I might have to figure out how to disable it, since it is annoying when you are varying speed a little near the limit and the "bongs" keep on coming.

Happy New Year!

Have just started using TT 920 as it comes out of the box - a great piece of kit.

Will be very grateful if anyone can tell me about the Pocket GPSWorld database:

are you forced to have warnings for mobile sites - in my Garmin I found this too annoying, too many irrelevant warnings?

is there any difference in the way the unit gives the warnings?

are there good enough instructions to make it easy to switch from the TT database to Pocket GPS World?

BTW, I sent an email question to TT response and got a reasonably quick relevant response - so I have nothing against TT support.

Pocket GPS give the option of downloading them consolidated by type or complete, so you can if you want just have Gatso for example, or download the lot, and only alert for the type you want. Personally I wouldnt, the only reason I subscribe is for the mobile camera locations, I can spot SPECS and Gatsos easy enough but I have the alerts setup for each of them

I also have a different alert setup for the mobile locations (ogg files, copy and paste them onto the SD card - instructions are on Pocket GPS site), and have upped the distance of notification to 1250 rather than the 500 that everything else is set at. Given that a mobile camera can snap you in either direction, sometimes a long time before you've seen them, I'd say live with the possibility that they're not there most of the time, but be prepared to have the odd occasion where it's right.

I've never used the TomTom camera base, last I heard it wasnt as up to date as Pocket GPS, but that could be down to any number of things. No real burning desire to try them, quite happy with the Pocket GPS ones

If you're midway through an existing subcription you can still carry on using the cameras, just get the latest ov2 and bmp files and copy/paste onto the SD card. You can also change the notification when TomTom hasnt quite got the speed limit right, Change Preferences/Safety Preferences I think it is - warn when driving faster than allowed
