I watched a dvd recently that had alot of off road biking in it and decided i'd quite like to have a go at motocross or something similar. I live in hertfordshire and was wondering if there are any places around that you can go to to have a go/learn how to do it? A Google search produced no useful results

I've have a go with these people before: http://www.mxtryout.co.uk/index.html
Was very fun! They provide all the gear, and there are 3 tracks - a flat oblong (just to learn to ride the bike really), a medium sized course with some moderate jumps etc, then the big professional looking track. I've never been on the big track as I went when I was about 16 and hadn't passed my bike test by then, so spent a lot of time learning to ride... It was great fun though, didn't even hurt when I fell off
I think the biggest bikes they have are 125s, but they seemed plenty fast enough at the time!

The more who go along the cheaper it is. They provide everything, so just turn up with lunch. There are four models to try, CRF100's, 230's, CRF250X's and 450's. The 100 was more fun than it ought to have been, even if you did look daft on it. I didn't try the 450, as fankly the 250 was throwing me off well enough without an extra 20hp. The 230 was a sort of low tech short 250 and was much less aggressive, but it suffered with a worse front end.
Lots of bruises and mud, but a good laugh, especially when I figured out not to ride it like a road bike.

Hi,
I've been riding motocross now for around 5 years (started when I was 30) - its the best thing is the world, and I completely gave up riding road bikes, as they just seemed to boring after (for me). Nothing beats blasting through corners, and sailing through the air 60 feet. Anyhow the UK motocross community can mainly be found here:
http://www.adrenalintrip.net/forum/index?siteid=1
you'll also find a list of all the tracks in the Uk on that site (you have to look hard ot find the link, but its there). Put a post up, and someone will help.
cheers
