What do you think the going rate for a new Exige S with the following spec would be;

- Chrome Orange
- Air Conditioning
- Traction
- Touring
- Super Touring
- Stage 2 Exhaust (Plus Standard)
- Pure Guarded
- Free: PDI, First service, tank of fuel, delivery via truck (200 miles) & fire extinguisher.

Car is on 10 delivery miles.

Was going to cry when I saw EX51GE R's post lol, well I bit the bullet and paid £37,750 for a brand new un-regestered car with Touring, Super Touring, Air-Con in Chrome Orange and then added Traction for £300.00.

I also got them to throw in (and fit) a Stage 2 Exhaust, plus supply me with the standard one. As well as that got the pure guard kit added and supplied, a fire extinguisher in the boot, a full tank of fuel, 12 Months Tax, PDI & First Service as well as having the car delivered to my door 200 miles away on Thursday 27th.

I always said I would never buy a new car due to the money lost in doing so!! I always was initially looking an 996 Turbo's as I couldn't find anywhere that would insure a Mk1 996 GT3. I only went to the garage to look at a Noble they had in stock, and prove to my friend the Exige wasnt the car for me , ohh how hes going to gloat for weeks.

And after seeing the Exige and taking one for a 40 min test drive I fell in love, the car is exactly what I was looking for a bit of a toy, weekend car that'll also be fine on the occasional track day and Nurburgring trip!!

The exige has incredible resale value once the initial hit has been taken, this is amazing for several reasons, not least the guy before is likely to have "used" it more than Daewoo. Buying new u get warranty peace of mind etc. £37K for a hand built genuine sports car racer is good value IMO. The atoms etc are not realistic enough, and the porkers etc are way to heavy. Good choice.

£38K?!!!! I just can't imagine paying that for a car, ever. A cheap S1 with a Honda will be £25K. Still, if you have the money, good luck with the new car...

I just paid £30k for an 06 S, with sport and touring packs plus AC, so I hope they don't hit £25k by the summer!

The reason I dropped my 997 S was due to the value freefalling from £64k to £45k in 2 years with no signs of slowing?

I doubt your car will ever drop below £18k, even in say 6 years, unless its ragged etc.

Yeh, swore I'd never buy new but the advantage was I know it's (hopefully) right from day one and I know that I'm the first to use and abuse it. Problems I was having with second hand 996TT's was the amount of faults on the second hand ones I was looking at, I can be a bit of a perfectionist at heart so nice to have something un-stonechipped for once.

I had budgeted for about £5k a year running costs, but realised if I bought a car where all the common faults hadn't happened yet I could soon be looking at £5k in parts / repair bills if things were to go tit's up to say the least.

Least I should hopefully have minimal costs for 2 years, and I've saved a possible £10k in 996 running / repairing costs which is the depreciation on the Exige. It was an impulse buy and as you say £38k is a hell of a bargain really considering the costs of other similar cars new.

Spotted the grey one, came up for sale a day after I bought the new one frown has good spec too! Although always wanted a chrome orange one, so that eases the pain of seeing it for £30k a little!

Anyone know if the S has a baffled sump at all? If not, will the warranty be effected by fitting one? May need to speak to my local Lotus dealer about this mind.

Some Exige S's on classifieds for £27K...so not far off £25K. Granted it was a touring which doesn't appeal to me

Yeah but you've admitted to transporting a Chinese take-way in it wink so that's another £5K in my books.
