My word...I nearly came a cropper tonight.
The M40 was a disaster area on the way home. Closed southbound due to a very nasty accident and a couple of other shunts within 3 or 4 miles of each other. There was a police car on the other carriage way to force the oncoming traffic to leave at the junction before the crash. I could see cars breaking to have a good old look but I completely misjudged how quickly they were braking...bugger me if I didn't nearly end up stacking it.
I was doing about 65 in the outside lane - I knew within a split second I was never going to stop when the cars in front braked hard, so I steered passed on the cars nearside. As I steered the back wheel locked up as it went over the white line...the bike went side ways to the left, I released the pressure on the back brake, the wheel gained traction which flipped the bike upright and over in the opposite direction. It then started to do a bit of a tank slap
I really thought that was it, but then luckily, as quickly as it had started, it all calmed down - I was still on the bike and wasn't dead.
Really scary and entirely my fault for not paying enough attention. I must have missed the braking car by inches
Take care out there!
