Since all the experts are out there, value my car!!

Original 1991 911(964) Cup Car -1 of 120; -37,000km, road registered 1996, resprayed goodness knows how many times, now GP white; race history 1991-1998......condition? I'd say VGC.

Be interested to see the spread of values and opinions.....

Oh, and value AFTER the engine rebuild.

Melv

PS It is most definitely NOT for sale.

very difficult as you know Melv, I was talking to someone earlier in the week who mentioned a '92 RS Clubsport LHD with low miles traded at £32K...I guess a real Cup car would be worth at least £35K ,,but any more than that...depends on the right buyer on the right day......as an everyday commuter car you would probably have triuble giving it away,,,no disrespect, just addressing the specialist nature of the car.

Are you having the engine rebuilt to the same spec?

If you look at GT3 vs GT3 Cup car values, the Cup racers are generally a bit cheaper - perhaps as much as 20%

I suppose this is because of the limited appeal of out and out racers.

I would guess that your lovely 964 Cup would be worth slightly less than a 964RS... at least 22k, butperhaps as much as 26k. Can't see it hitting the 30s. Sorry

Of course, you have to remember that I am slightly biased

Top car tho' Mel and sorry to hear about the engine trouble. That's what happens when you fit TVR finger followers.

Does an engine rebuild have an adverse effect on values ?

On some cars it can *improve* second hand values.

If the work is done well, by a reputable firm, I would say a 993RS engine rebuild is a good thing (maybe even worth a very small premium) as most engines on this highly strung 8 year old car will need at least some work these days.

Thats good to know, was getting a bit worried about mine losing a load of it's value.

OK, some fair(?) comments, but this is my quandary....

Paid £27.5K two years ago. Insured for £30K. Have seen asking prices of equivalent £40K for Cup Cars and Clubsports.

Hakinens '91 Monaco winning car for sale in US at £80K!!!!!

So, what do I insure it for???

Ooh, sorry if my valuation was a tad low, there Melv.

I didn't know that the values were that mental. Seems like a very specialist market.

I'd insure it as high as you want. In the event of a claim the ins co will only pay out what they feel it is worth anyway.

Soooo, if you will be arguing with an assessor over its value in the future (let's hope not, eh!), make sure you keep any reference you can to similar vehicles, ie a scrapbbok with all those 40k classifieds in.

Cheers

Melv,,,you mentioned you took the Cup to Gt one,,,are they doing the rebuild? just wonderd what this entailed and if you were going to stick some 3.8 barells & pistons, getting 340 bhp or so??
If you haven't got it worked out i can give you the number of my techie in Surrey who does this sort of lark.

Yes!

Don't know yet!!

"and if you were going to stick some 3.8 barells & pistons, getting 340 bhp or so??"

Why? 300 brake on slicks is plenty enough for me!

Why not ? 3.6 with 300bhp or 3.8 with 340bhp...surely helps the power to weight..i don't know if this would do anything to the value of the car? (negatively).
Just a thought that while the engine was out it may make sense to do such mods.Personally if i would feel better spending such a sum of money if i got an improvement somewhere, rather than getting what i had before with the only real difference being a light wallet.

I hope it works out,,,running in will be a nightmare of temptation.

You find me a lhd RS that hasn't had at least a top end rebuild and has been used in anger and I'll give you my Blue Peter badge - 3rd to 2nd rather than 3rd to 4th.........and replace the exhaust valves and guides whilst you're at it please....

Incidentally , 3 or 4 years ago Peter Nardelli had an ex cup car sitting under the arches at Tower Porsche - ISTR he wanted £19k for the car at that time....I'd quite fancy one myself as it happens
