Can anyone help me out?
Since coming back from NZ, The steering feels much, much heavier than it did when I left. So no I'm fearing the worst. Dreading woodruff key. I'm told it an engine out job to fix.
I seem to remember a thread a while back about fitting electric power steering from a Citroen Saxo.
Has anyone fitted one?
Would the woodruff key need to be fixed?
How does it work?
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Check the UJ under the drivers side wheel arch - I reckon it'll be stiff.. if so, not too much of a problem to sort and cheap too.

This universal joint, what am i looking for?
Is is serviceable with a kit?
Or is it a replacement part? If so is it off another car? Or a TVR specific part?
Thanx in advance.

If it's the woodruff key the steering will have a few heavy episodes as the key breaks and then will be (very) heavy all the time. It may also make a few chirruping noises like you've got a pigeon under the bonnet. UJ sounds more likely in your case.

I had the electric version installed when mine went - much easier than replacing the key apparently.

Your problem may very well be in here

This area can be accessed by removing the horizontal(ish) cover panel in front of the engine.

The grease inside here can go hard and cause the steering to be heavy.

Remove the two M6 bolts with a 10mm socket, take the top cover off and pull out the insides (it's actually really simple, just remember what order the bits came out in).

Clean the bits you take out.

Grease them with new grease.

Put it back together.

It may just work.
