Hi all

I’m finding myself increasingly tempted by the “old model” TT 3.2 DSG… My wife prefers automatics, and the DSG might be the best of both worlds for us in our one-car household! I used to have a Golf v6 4motion, and I miss the v6 grunt and 4wd grip in my Polo GTi (nice and economical though it is!)…

What’s more, they seem to be unbelievably good value – a decent 04 car with <50k miles seems to be going for ~£12.5-£15k, with the upper end of that range representing fully warranted Audi dealer network cars!

The reviews all seem positive (I accept they’re not Boxster-sharp to drive), but does anyone have first hand experience of these cars? Any DSG reliability horror stories?

Thanks in advance!

Dr G

Done a few fairly recently - nothing to report in terms of reliability!

They drive nicely and it seems as if you've already decided you like the DSG. That narrow angle 6 is a lovely motor, not tunable cheaply if such things matter to you and not the last word in fuel economy but my word do they sound good.

Used to have a V6 DSG TT Roadster. Had it a year, did about 9k miles, and it never went wrong at all. The only thing it needed was 2 new front tyres @ about £130 each.

Averaged about 29mpg, you'd probably get a bit better in the coupe with it being a bit lighter.

No problems at all with the DSG, made stop-start driving easier, but it gives you enough control over the gearbox like a manual when you want it.

The V6 sounds lovely too, especially so with the roof down smile

Get on to the TT forum (www.tt-forum.co.uk) for more views. There have been some recent stories of DSG gearboxes going pop, so you might want to look into this first
