Enormous plaudits to the dealership which used to be Prestons of Colne for their dexterity with a spray gun and in particular, Matty from the associated pro detailer who delivered the final prep.

You've ruined it now... no way you can put that to its intended use without a fair modicum of guilt being induced... I mean how disrespectful would it be to undo all that good work of the guys... tongue outwinkbiggrin

Why not ? I had my car totally sprayed even though it wasnt needed. Worth the extra money imo and the job was guarenteed for 2 years.

Thanks, guys, the respray arose out of the simple, compulsive obsessive disorder to maintain the car as much as possible to an 'as new' condition following the inevitable, ravaging impacts of 7 years' airbourne acidism - not to mention the myriad dings, micro dents and scratches associated with in excess of 92,000 miles' worth of daily commuting - and no amount of elbow grease was going to deliver the required lsutre.

A new carpet was installed (following an embarassing incident involving batter acid, doh!) and certain pieces of aluminium trim about the centre console were replaced. There are still a couple of minor imperfections re the driver's kick plate and although the driving seat bolsters were treated to a near redye, it still displays a certain patina which tbh, is viewed as 'characterful' amongst some sections of the detailing/restoration fraternity - Derrin can certainly put me straight on that one!

The wheels were also treated to a thorough refurb and the chaps have restored the chrome shadow effect which I believe to be something of a black art amongst the wheel ref boys. They approach perfection but given the cost of wholescale replacement, I am more than happy.

It's funny but this 'performance bargain of the century' still commands a quiet respect: wholly lacking the visual fizz of the E60 successor (not to mention that car's outrageous drag strip credentials hehe) there is still a slow nod and knowing smile from fellow middle aged spread agents of grunt-tune.

Just this morning, as I collected several crates of overpriced, foreign ale, a deserted supermarket carpark saw my barren location, away from what dent happy plebia might be abroad at that time, broken upon my return to the car from a kindred, latter day spirit from Stuttgart. A brand new Mercedes CL63 AMG.

Which says it all.

Some more photos are heading my way, apparently so I'll post them up once they arrive.

Happy trails, beer

Michael, cheers: the basic job was indeed as good as it gets but the perfection came c/o Matty & Co's paint correction @ www.offyourmarks.com - I simply won't entrust any cars now or going forward to anyone else, he's proven on several ocassions to be simply too consistent and obsessive to deliver anything less than 100%!

(The DB7 Vantage Coupe in the background in some of the shots: it was a similar story, there: the paint was, well, near edible!)

P.S. How's Al's 8 coming along? wink

'Back in the Day' [mid-80's]...that was the first BMW Dealership I ever had significant dealings with.

They used to have a tiny little premises with only a couple of staff. Even though I had what at the time was probably regarded as a bit of an 'old shed' (a 3.0CS believe it or not...Yes! How times have changed!) they were always really polite, everyone always knew you by name and they would all go out of their way to help their small cadre of clientele!

I remember taking the CS there for a simple Oil Service and them giving me a courtesy car which was then a 'state of the art' new model...an E30 318i no less! WOW!

I drove it back and forth; up and down bewteen Earby and Burnley several times just for the hell of it (even via Bar'lick just to see them look at me like I'd landed from the Moon! LOL).....I was in heaven!

Doesn't seem possible with a BMW anymore does it?

DER...that car looks...magnificent!

Congratulations! You must be...and should be...really pleased!
