i changed the oil today and now i seem to be blowing blue smoke from the right hand bank. the dipstick helpfully seems to have a different reading on each side. one side shows half an inch under the max line, the other side shows half an inch over the max
ant damage to the car if i use it as is?
it did seem to settle down once warm on tick over...

Seems to be a Cerbera thing. I have same problem. Never know exactly how much oil I got.
Well, I've drained off some oil and cleaned out the breather pipe into the RH airbox. This was quite full of mayo.
A brief chat with Paul at PPC suggests that this could just be build up over a while as I'm not using the car enough for it to get properly warm, it's only 10-15 mins to work. This seems plausible.
However, the blue/white smoke still persists while the engine is cold. Once it's up to temp the smoke goes away totally. This suggests to me worn valve seals.
It's not losing coolant and the exhaust smoke is gray/white with puffs of blue, so I think it's oil being burnt rather than coolant. So here's hoping the gaskets are OK and so on.
Assuming it is valve seals (as I said, after a few minutes driving the smoke dissapears) what am I looking at? Can you just replace the valve seals, or is this the start of something bigger?

. . . which grade? There's a school of thought that the 0/40 is a little too thin. Try something more viscous - take a look at http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&a...
