My M5 is currently on sorn and has been in storage for almost 6 months. I went to pick it up tonight and bring it home. It only took 5 mins to realise what a quality car this is. Mine is about to turn onto 112,000 miles and is absolutely squeek & rattle free. It is a sublime experience to drive a car like this. Mine is a stock 2000 with an ECU programme & Supersprint exhausts. It is unlike any other car that I have owned in the way that it builds speed, get it into 4th and gently squeeze the throttle and as it passes 4000 revs it just accelerates the horizon towards you.

I am sure that our resident Der will be along shortly with his eloquent prose to tell of his exploits with this the most rounded of the M cars.

Sadly I shall be selling her in 2008 as it is just not being used.

Cheers

I have only owner mine for 3 months and had high expectations knowing it was to be a daily driver.I has far exceeded all of them and I know of nothing else to replace it with. The comfort, handling, equipment, looks and the power! I drive mine quite gently most of the time and an quite smug knowing that it cost me the same as a nearly new mondeo. (Who the f$ck wants a mondeo!)
Utterly faultless so far and I cant wait to take it abroad.

s62, that can't be stock can it? I thought they topped out 180mph odd!

Der, fantastic.

e39m5 is on the list of cars I will own, 100%. I keep getting tempted to chop the elise in for one, but I know when the sun comes I'll have some good fun in the lotus!

Not quite - got 2 little helpers under the hood.

Here is a comparison with a stock M5:

Regarding top speed - the limiters have been taken out.

I'd suspect that an indicated 310km/hr (194mph) is probably around the 180mph mark. Phenominal for a comfy 5 seater though. It certainly showed the stock M5 a clean pair of boots!

In my car it´s actually closer to 300km/h (187.5 mph) given the correction factor I
calculated by comparing speedo readings vs. readings from my GPS.

Seems to be a very common problem around Nurburg, especially the Ring itself biglaugh
