Hi, I'm currently in NZ, will be moving to the UK middle of next year and am thinking of bringing the my 2003 HSV with me.
I was just wondering if anyone here has gone down the same path, or could point me in the right direction, advise of costs, pitfalls etc.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Cheers

Dave.

Europe is pretty cool. I'd say it's one of the most diverse and multi cultured regions in the world. You'll need a good few years of weekend trips to take in just what it's all about IMHO, and really, it's still evolving too with the addition of 'European' countries such as Romania, Lithuania, and Turkey being added all the time! The whole freaking world will be Europan in a few years!!!
I have a couple of friends that I haven't seen for years in NZ. They're living the good life now on the south island.....lucky bastards!!!! One of them married some local girl who was the daughter of a millionaire....Lucky bastard!!!

Hello mate yep know all about this as have done this from oz. Right you need to have owned the car for at least 6 months first you will need prove this. Cost well from brisbane it cost me £750 plus insurance of about $350 that was a roll on roll off with SEAWAY, mate dont know if they are in kiwi land but worth a try takes about a long time to get here though so might wnat to organise now bascically once it turns up in southampton you just go pick it up and drive home.. dont forget your UK insurance though.

You didn't say what type of HSV you have, but might be worth comparing what you could sell it for in NZ and what one would cost in England. They sold Monaros cheaper in England than in Australia!

Cheers for the replies, its a 03 VY Clubsport. Have been looking at whats available in the UK on the Autotrader website and tbh I prefer my Clubbie to the Monaro, plus its a known quantity to me.
Bovered79, cheers for that info, did you have to go through any kind of test to get it on the roads over there (did you need to convert the speedo or do any other mods to get it legal) or pay any import duty or other taxes, or do you get to avoid that because its a personal import?
Sorry about all the questions, I just don't want to get stung when it gets over there.
Looks quite promising.
Loving the idea of taking the old girl for a blast through Europe!

You will need to get a SVA to register the car on the road in the UK. From what I have read on here insurance is a bit of an issue when you are running on foreign plates. I am sure some guys who have done it will be along to fill in the info.

Make contact with these guys about SVA testing I know they do allot of it.

You might want to get in touch with the DVLA in the UK, here's a link to their website pages that deal with importing cars....

Kia Ora mate!

I imported my VS SS from Brisbane in 2004, thru a company called '' Copsey '' based in Romford, Essex.
It cost me all up for transport [ 4months ] Handling and Insurance £1000 - $2600.
It is UK registered and the main item you need is be careful with is the exhaust system and the Co2 emissions.
I had a hell of a time with this. Also exhaust noise. My VS has got a great grumble but had to be silenced for the
MOT.
Copsey & CO LTD number is +442085921003 these guys will give the run down on importing costs.
Good luck and see you in the UK soon.

Well Im from NZ about 10 years ago.
Try and earn what you do here in NZ. Also in NZ a 1M population city is huge!
Here its not even worth mentioning.
Its good to travel to open your mind and live a little.
If you wanted to stay in NZ you might as well just curl up and die. Its very slow and boring.
New Zealanders are moving to Oz in larger number than at any time in the last 20 years. Its got a lot to do with the communist NZ government. But also with how well Oz is going.

Anyway, we have the advantage of being able to return at any time when we get bored smile

Hi guys, cheers for the replies. I've fired off a few emails but not had any replies yet.
From what I can gather I won't have to pay any taxes to get it in the country, just trying to figure out whether I can get away with the SVA or if I have to go through an ESVA, which sounds like a pain.
As for the mods is it just the speedo I need to take care of (she's pretty quiet on stock exhaust atm) or is there anything else
Cheers.
